URGENT HELP NEEDED NOW!!

Lewis 97 wrote on 12/7/2008, 1:41 AM
Hi, I have managed to fix all of my previous problems thanks to help from people... But now I have made my video (which just so happens to be a lego animation). I did direct upload to youtube, It uploaded, that was fine. Although when I watched it some of the voices I had made louder were really quiet, some sounds were louder than what I set, it lost all of its quality, and another annoying thing is: in the bottom left hand corner I set the rate to 1.35, (that sounded and looked best), but whenever I exit or re-enter the rate changes back to 0.00 and the same happens when I process the video. NOTE: this also happens when I process it to my hard drive, and the reason it is urgent is that I am in a competiton with a freind and I NEED the video up by monday. Please, please, please help!

A huge thankyou in advance,

Lewis97.

P.S. This isn't so urgent, and I should be able to find this out without any of your help, but it would be very helpful if you could also tell me how to do credits, titles, apply title effects, and another thing is moving THE WHOLE video forward. Thankyou again.

I think that rate is for previewing purposes not for editing? As for the audio volume, it should be as you exported it, or youtube has a bug. I suggest you export normally and use your browser to upload to youtube, never use these "automatic" wizards thingies that some apps have for other services. Only trust the service that was meant to be, and that's a good old web browser for the case of youtube. Also, try exporting a different way, e.g. using the wmv or sony avc or mainconcept mp4 ways.

Ok, but if the rate is for previewing how DO I set it for editing?
Eugenia wrote on 12/7/2008, 2:54 AM
You get the clips one by one, right click, properties, and there you set the rate from 1.000 up to 4.000. I am assuming you are talking about speed rate. This is basic vegas usage.
Lewis 97 wrote on 12/7/2008, 3:01 AM
Please can you give simple instructions on how to change the rate of the whole film, pernamently. Since it is stop motion I have about 600 clips, therefore cannot go through seperately. Your answer will be greatly appreciated. Please reply asap. Also going back to the sound, should the sound in the film (when exported) sound like it did when I previewed it?

View your whole timeline in a single window, use either the EDIT tool or the Shift key and SELECT all clips (audio and video) in the timeline. Then, right click, and select "Group" and "Create New". Then, while still all clips selected, press CNTRL key and place the cursor in the edge of the last clip until the cursor changes. There, you click, and you move the mouse left and right to either fast-motion or slow-motion your whole track. Make a second project, copy of the first, to try the above suggestion.

Your advice so far has fixed all the problems... So far. Unfortunately a new one has popped up. When I export the video as an avi file, the voice and sound fx ignore the gaps I have put in and just play one after the other without stopping, right from the beginning, so basically the sound, and the video are not synced properly. How can I stop this? please message back soon. Thankyou so so so much.
Eugenia wrote on 12/7/2008, 4:20 AM
After you have changed the speed of a video, you need to manually resync the added audio in the timeline. Or, you should have changed the speed rate of the audio too when you changed the speed rate of the video.

I did, everything on the preview is in the right place. It is just when I export the video. Also how do I ungroup things?
Eugenia wrote on 12/7/2008, 4:51 AM
>It is just when I export the video.

I don't know then, that could be a bug on Vegas. Try another codec.

>Also how do I ungroup things?

Same menu as before, select the clip you want to ungroup, and select "remove" from that menu.

If you're lucky, this may work: hit CTRL+A to select all, open a new project and paste it there. Save and render.
Lewis 97 wrote on 12/7/2008, 8:22 AM
Thankyou again, but it still won't work, I really don't understand. No matter what I do, the sound, (the preview is perfect) keeps on playing without any breaks, right from the beginning, even though on the timeline I have put them in the correct places. Maybe you could give me your email and I could send you a picture of my workspace on vegas, and if I have made any errors you can correct them? Thankyou for all of your help and patience. Lewis :)

Here is something you may try: render the sound alone, to wav. It takes a second. Check if it is ok. It should be as long as your movie, naturally. If it is ok, first backup your project, then delete the audio track and put the wav file instead. Render your video. Done!
Lewis 97 wrote on 12/7/2008, 9:30 AM
how do I render the sound to wav.? Please can you give more clear instructions. I am finding vegas really complicated. Thanks :)
Ivan Lietaert wrote on 12/7/2008, 9:55 AM
Do as you would render as usual. Go to the file menu and click 'render as'. Next to 'save as' in that window, there is a dropdown list of codecs. Look for 'wave (microsoft)' and select it. Give it a name (eg 'animation audio'). Hit ok. Now your sound only will be rendered. This is really quick, just a few seconds. Next take the steps in my previous post.

I did exactly what you said, then saved it to my hard drive. It was perfect, then I uploaded it to youtube and the sound was ridiculously quiet. Please help. Lewis
Ivan Lietaert wrote on 12/7/2008, 12:07 PM
uh... you did turn up the volume of the youtube player, did you?
In Vegas, to the left of the audiotrack, there is a Vol(ume) slider. You can crank up the volume with 12dB, which is considerable.
Lewis 97 wrote on 12/7/2008, 1:43 PM
I turned up the volume on the youtube player, and if I make the volume higher on the slider the voice goes all horrible. I am very confused, because I made the vid, exported it to my hard drive as a wmv. and it was all fine, but then I uploaded it to youtube and the voice was soo unbelievably quiet, BUT the sound fx and music were fine, It was just the voice
Ivan Lietaert wrote on 12/7/2008, 1:49 PM
Did you record the voice yourself? What type of file is it? You should go for the highest possible quaility. Best opt for .wav . I've have no experience with voice recordings in Vegas myself.

There's an old saying: you can't make silk out of a pig's ear. If the 'master' recording is faulty or low quality, it will be very hard to get it better, I'm afraid.
Lewis 97 wrote on 12/7/2008, 1:55 PM
Well all of the sound is one thing now, because i took your previous advice, and it is a wav. file. Yes I did record the voice myself, and it was a good quality ( I used the T.bone ssc440). When I preview the video it is perfect, when I export it to my hard drive it is perfect, but when I upload it to youtube it all goes pearshaped. Can I have your email so that I can send u the wmv. file that I exported. You will see for yourself it is perfect, or if there is something technical or complicated wrong with it you can give me a hand.
Ivan Lietaert wrote on 12/7/2008, 1:56 PM
I think the volume of your recording was set too low. Do the following: turn of the track where you keep the sound fx and soundtrack (there is an icon for that on the left hand side of the audio track), until you only have the voice track. Play it, and watch the mixer: the audio level should peak a approximately 9 (the green indicators should fill 3 quarters of it).

Also, in the Vegas explorer window, click on a sound file. Down under, you'll see properties of the audio file. Post them here. I'll look at them.

Click on my name: you should be able to email me, now that I changed my forum settings.
Ivan Lietaert wrote on 12/7/2008, 2:02 PM
Can you post the youtube url here? I'd like to watch it to hear for myself.
Lewis 97 wrote on 12/7/2008, 2:04 PM
I can't do this, because I followed your advice for my previous problem and changed ALL audio into one file (that includes fx and voice).
Lewis 97 wrote on 12/7/2008, 2:05 PM
I will upload the vid again. (I deleted it b4)
