[V14] Audio too loud / overdrive when importing PRORES files.

Pablo wrote on 3/20/2017, 1:02 PM

Hi,

I have big problem when importing PRORES 422 UHD files (recorded in FS700 with Odyssey 7Q+) into Vegas Pro 14 b211.

Audio is too loud, it's like recorded with distortion / overdrive. I have tried it with Premiere and many video players, and they played just fine. In Vegas Pro 13 they working fine too. The problem existing only in Vegas Pro 14. After building peaks audio track looks like this:

In Vegas Pro 13, the same file looks just normal (and playing without problem):

Any suggestions why this happen?

hmm, mxhevcplug.dll trouble?
Try go to C:\Program Files\VEGAS\VEGAS Pro 14.0\FileIO Plug-Ins - and look for 'mxhevcplug' folder. rename this temporarily like 'mxhevcplug_OFF' folder, and see it that fix the issue?

I have the same exact problem. FS700, 7Q+, ProRes. Tried renaming the file suggested, but it just made Vegas unable to work with ProRes at all. Magix is useless (so far more crashes, less functionality) compared to SONY Vegas 13. Last time I pay for Vegas, thanks.

...Tried renaming the file suggested, but it just made Vegas unable to work with ProRes at all...

You would need Quicktime for Windows installed, so that Vegas falls back to using that (qt7plug.dll), like it did in older versions, rather than the new native ProRes decoder (mxhevcplug.dll) in VP14.

Three drawbacks of Vegas (mxhevcplug.dll) doing the decoding:

  • Repeat first frame of 23.976 and 59.94fps footage
  • Does not decode multi-channel audio correctly
  • Your audio issue

One drawback of Quicktime (qt7plug.dll) doing the decoding:

  • Decodes with excessive contrast (for most purposes). Can usually be fixed with an FX.

@Pablo & @Mizamook, please report this issue via a support request at https://support2.magix.com/customer/en/vegas/form , including as much detailed information about the problem as you can. I have not seen this reported, so there is every chance the developers do not know about it, and a support request is the best way to get it into their backlog of issues.

Also could one of you please share a sample file that exhibits this issue?

hey @NickHope I have this same issue. I actually just posted my issue and didn't look through the other threads. I'm using an FS700 with odyssey and another with the Shogun. Files drag and drop fine in vegas 13. audio is not working correctly for vegas 14. however when i use plural eyes 4, i can preview the audio fine at least for shogun files. i see you just posted a response so i'll check that out in a bit. in the meantime, here's a sample file you requested.

(it's still uploading and will be ready in about 4-5 minutes.)

is there a way to just record on the odyssey/shogun audio to channel 1? why does it even record to channel 3 and 4.

NickHope wrote on 4/19/2017, 6:18 AM

I'm seeing the same behaviour as you with that file in VP13 and 14.

Your levels are pretty flat so if that's typical, you could stick with the Quicktime codec and not have shadows or highlights get clipped. That's what I would do.

Please submit a support request at https://support2.magix.com/customer/en/vegas/form , including as much detailed information about the problem as you can. It would be useful if you link to this thread and also to the sample file so the developers can test with it.

(Link to your other thread with workarounds for this issue)

By the way, the footage is upside-down. I assume it is for you too.

thejhfilms wrote on 4/19/2017, 10:55 AM

yeah, i was recording upside down on my rig. thanks for that. appreciate the help Nick. you're a rockstar here!

This is fixed in VEGAS Pro 15 build 311. "The audio in ProRess 422 files created through Convergent Design hardware is now handled properly".
