V15 Trial, unable to launch, crashes at 44% loading after splash

Tony-M78 wrote on 12/15/2017, 2:26 PM

Hi guys, in need of some help here, this is really frustrating me.

I've signed up for the 30 day V15 trial as I want to purchase the full package, (lucky I did now) but I can't launch it. At first it was crashing everytime it got to the splash screen and at the "creating windows" prompt. I then started to work down the FAQ list doing one by one, eventually I managed to get it loading into the program where I can see the Vegas program open, but now it's crashing always at 44% mark.

Like I said, I've done everything in the list of possible fixes, but still can't get this to work.

I'm on a brand new install of Windows 10, latest update.

8700K @ 5.0 GHz

MSI z370 Gaming M5 motherboard

16GB DDR4 3600mhz RAM

Samsung M.2 drive

AMD RX Vega64 Water Cooled latest Adrenalin Driver 17.12.1

thanks in advance. Really want to buy the program on offer, but not until I resolve this issue. Hopefully can figure it out soon so I dont waste to many days of the trial.

I dont get those errors but willing to give this a go, Thanks.

What do you mean rename VST folder? Do you mean C:\Program Files\VEGAS and the files inside?

this is what happens

Do you have VSTs as in Effects and / or soft synths installed on your system maybe used by other audio software?

If so you might have them in the program files and/or program files (x86) folders called VST PLUGINS.

no, its a fresh install of Windows 10, not had any recording software or older versions of Vegas on here.

Looks like it's crashing while it's loading a sample project. Click "Cancel" at the very bottom of the screen during that moment that you have a chance to. Then see if you can get anything done in a new empty project.

By the way I added the VST stuff to the troubleshooting post for this (in item #14): https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-vegas-pro-won-t-start-what-can-i-do--104784/ But it looks like the problem is later than that in your case.

hi Nick.

Unfortunately, when it's loading into the program, I can't click on the cancel button, nor can I click on any other button at that stage, everything is unresponsive to any sort of click. The only things I can click on are the minimise, maximise and cross.

This is really starting to nark me off though, I've just exhausted everything now, I've put in some bug reports to the team so hopefully I get some kind of response. The odd thing is though, even tried going back to Vegas 14 and it's the exact same thing. Everything is updated, I've done clean boots but the problem seems deeper than a program compatibility issue at this point.

ok. Quick update.

Issue resolved, deleted the sampleproject.veg file it attempts to load at 44% and now its working. :)Thank you for trying to help

The sampleproject.veg will not run on AMD cards if the GPU is enabled. It uses the Defocus FX, which leads to the crash. I do not know why exactly one project was selected that does not work with AMD cards. Maybe it is already running with GPU at the developers?

Defocus FX is one of the issue I had too, as a user of AMD Radeon RX470.

Everytime I want to use Defocus and Starburst, Vegas Pro crashes.

Oops. Not a good choice of FX to include in the sample project. The issue was discussed here. I'll report it.

Thank you, I have the same issue but the thing is that I am not able to find the sampleproject.veg. Can you please tell me where it is?

NickHope wrote on 1/6/2018, 7:59 PM

@Lorenia

I found 2 of them here:

  • C:\ProgramData\VEGAS\VEGAS Pro\15.0\SampleProject\SampleProject.veg
  • C:\Users\All Users\VEGAS\VEGAS Pro\15.0\SampleProject\SampleProject.veg

Thank you! Found it :) I am able to use the trial, hopefully I'll get the full version soon.
Thank you Nick and Tony.
