V20 and BCC+ FX Editor crash

misohoza wrote on 8/10/2022, 5:16 PM

I just downloaded the Vegas Pro 20 trial. It crashes immediately when I try to open any BCC+ FX Editor.

Continuum 2022.5 version is the latest as of today (15.5.1)

I can add the effect just fine and it works but as soon as I click the button to open its internal FX Editor Vegas crashes.

That's something Boris will probably have to update on their end to fix, but thanks for pointing it out.

Maybe... But I have Vegas 19 installed and there it works just fine. It's just Vegas 20 crashing constantly. 😩

Unfortunately that is something that sometimes happens with new versions, the plugin developers have to update their plugins to work with them.

Hi,

Thanks for reporting this. The Vegas team are aware of the issue and my understanding is they know how to fix the problem and that they have plans to release an update.

Thanks,
Peter.

OK, so latest feedback from Boris FX support to me is that the onus is currently on Vegas to provide a fix for which they (Boris) have no ETA, and they recommend Boris FX Continuum users stay on Vegas 19 until then

@VEGASDerek I've been informed that BORIS is getting out a maintenance fix that will stop the crashing, but that comes with "caveats" and their advice, again @MikeS, is to stay with VP19 until that time.

MikeS wrote on 8/12/2022, 2:47 AM

Yep, all that Boris will be doing is to provide a workaround that avoids the crash, but with reduced functionality - this is as far as Boris can go until Vegas release their own patch.

Boris's reply on their forum -

PeterMcAuley - Senior Product Manager
Hey Guys.
Here’s an update to the Vegas crash issue when attempting to use the custom UI in BCC+ effects. We are planning on releasing a maintenance update to Continuum (2022.5.2) no later than mid-next week that will prevent the host crash, with some caveats. Here’s what you’ll see :
• FX Editor custom UI : Host video will not be displayed, however, you will be able to select presets and return to the host with the correct result.
• Mocha custom UI : Host video will not be displayed, but you will be able to create shapes and return to the host with the correct result.
That’s really all we can do on our end to fix this issue and return stability to Vegas 20 - when you install the forthcoming Continuum maintenance release Vegas 20 will no longer crash when attempting to use the custom UI feature, which is a good thing. Once Magix issues a maintenance release for Vegas 20 with a fix on their side, you will once again be able to see host video in the FX Editor and Mocha custom UI.
Thanks,
Peter.

Thanks @Former user for this. Sorry, I won't be updating to VP20 and will remain on 19 until this is fixed. I don't know how this escaped beta (or did it?) considering how Vegas has bundled BorisFX with it's software.

@Reyfox Yep I'm sticking with 19 too, I asked if this 'maintenance update to Continuum' he mentioned will affect how Continuum performs in V19 but no reply yet, at the moment everything is working fine for me so i don't want to rock he boat with an update for a V20 problem.

Steve_Rhoden wrote on 8/12/2022, 9:22 AM

@Reyfox Don't start with hinting sloppy work of the Beta team! The crash only occurs from implementing a small portion of the recently updated Boris Continuum 2022.5 . Both are very new versions and small caveats like these often occurs, and are usually corrected very soon.

Reyfox wrote on 8/12/2022, 11:06 AM

@Steve_Rhoden I'm not slighting anyone for sloppy work of the Beta team. If there had been a release mentioning the problem and that it will be fixed shortly, instead of a user discovering it, that is a little different. Either the beta team reported it and it was released anyway (marketing push), or they didn't have anyone on the beta/development team with Continuum 2022.5.1. It's not a small "caveat" either for those who have Boris and consider upgrading to VP20.

I don't know about anyone else, but I depend on the FX Editor in a lot of Boris. And not having the host video displayed renders it "hit or miss" when the workaround is put out by Boris. People here in the forum were complaining big time about the same thing with NBFX TP7 and were going back to TP6 or 5 because the host video would not play in the TP7 UI. It's that fundamental for people.

Re-read my beta sentence. There is a question mark in there...

Fortunately, the  "recently updated Boris Continuum 2022.5" works absolutely fine in Vegas 19

When i said 'everything is working fine for me' I forgot to mention Continuum fxs added in V-Effects don't transfer back into Vegas Pro even tho the thumbnail in Project media seems to flicker as if updating, Sapphire & the in-built Vegas effects do transfer back to VP19 tho,

PS it works if I Edit in Hitfilm Pro tho,

@Steve_Rhoden I would consider the FX Editor to be quite a major part of the Continuum package, it's far from a 'small portion or small caveats' , it's in pretty much all the fxs & one of the first buttons i press 😕

Dexcon wrote on 8/17/2022, 1:56 AM

BorisFX have just released BCC 15.5.2 which partially addresses the BCC+ VFX problem. The FX Editor now nows opens without crashing VP20, but there is no functionality in the FX Editor window. I guess that this is the bit which needs to be addressed in a Vegas Pro 20 update.
