v21 MP3s won't open and there is a loud grinding noise in old sessions

alberto-cruz wrote on 12/3/2024, 4:57 PM

Last week I couldn't open Vegas 21 because it kept sending me an error report. So today I decided to uninstall and reinstall the entire Suite of version 21. I was finally able to open the Vegas sessions but when playing the files that are in mp3 the program plays a screeching sound.

I opened a new session and the same thing happened. And when I tried to pull a file from the internal Vegas explorer I realized that no mp3 file appears!

I already looked for solutions in the forum, including the one that is done from the registry editor, but all I see is the Realtek registry.

Help! Of course I already uninstalled and reinstalled the program, but I can't solve the problem. Clearly it is something related to mp3 because in a session where I have mp3 and wav elements, the wavs can be heard even under the digital noise.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I have Vegas 21 Build 315

Does a reset and cache clear help?

I just did it...and now the program won't open again, I get the message Vegas Pro has stopped....

This is already looking like a nightmare.

This is the sound I get in all my sessions that have mp3s. Resetting the program's cache didn't work and the only thing I have inside the regedit in ASIO is a Realtek ASIO folder that comes on my laptop pro by default.

This wasn't happening 15 days ago! I'll accept any suggestions =)

Was the registry edit you were looking for as outlined in the comment marked as The Solution in:

This apparently applies if you have or perhaps had Sound Forge Audio Studio installed on the computer. It also happened to me years ago with a Sound Forge Pro installation with .mp3 media.

I would send in the error report and link to this thread.

Perhaps as Dexcon recommend try uninstalling other Magix products too temporarily and see if VEGAS will then start and work.

I have Sound Forge Pro 17, as it is the version that came with Vegas Pro Suite 21. And in fact... Sound Forge Pro 17 does not open! I am going to uninstall it.

I have Vegas Pro version 15 installed, it plays mp3s without any problems. The problem is that all my work sessions are from Vegas 21. I think it doesn't support the latest version of Waves.

I know this sounds crazy, but what if I buy Vegas 22, will this problem be inherited? Wow, it's an extra expense, but I could lose more if I don't find a solution.

Give the free trial version of Vegas Pro 22 a try to find out before purchasing. The trial link is at the bottom of https://www.vegascreativesoftware.com/us/?_ga=1.199726702.19700657.1468557583

Something very strange is going on here that is stopping these two programs from opening. I'd open a support ticket with Magix as maybe it's something simple.

I wouldn't buy 22 in hopes of fixing it (though as Dexcon recommends there is a free trial available).

Guys, thank you very much. I really appreciate your time and support. These situations that suddenly occur with the software you work with are extraordinary and, in this case, terrible.

I'm downloading version 22 now, whatever... I'm open to any additional suggestions.

Of course I've already written to Magix support.

Guys, thank you very much. The problem was solved with the test installation of Vegas 22.

Vegas 22 did not have the problem, I could see the mp3 files and listen to them.

I opened Vegas 21 and it worked again! So, in order to find out if it was something with the Vegas 21 Pro Suite installation, I uninstalled everything. I reinstalled everything...and it worked.

So, I decided to see what would happen if I uninstalled Vegas 22...and it worked.

Conclusion: some component in the Vegas 22 installation fixed whatever the bug was in version 21.

Thanks for your support, the problem has been solved.
