I remember when the original v6 was going for $99 from B&H, was only for Vegas, not including DVDA. Ok, now things are all-in-one, so is prob not an issue. I just remember buying 3x of that v6 and having to use other software instead of DVDA.

It still is. I'm surprised they haven't sold out of it by now.

Come to think, I guess someone just joining the Vegas world could buy the $99 Vegas 6 and the $99 Vegas 8 upgrade, and thereby get Vegas 8 for $198. (Assuming the V6 that BH has is eligible for an upgrade.)

I purchased Vegas 6 from B&H, it did not include DVD Architect.

But I was able to upgrade to Vegas 8 pro thru Sony.

Yes, DVD Architect is included in Vegas Pro 8. It's also listed in the description on both retailer sites.

That's pretty much how I did it - aside from buying the upgrade directly from Sony. $99 for V6 and $199 for the upgrade [ Sony was running a special pricing offer at the time of purchase]

Seems like B&H isn't the only place, Amazon seems to have gotten their hands on the $99 upgrades also.

...nobody said you had to buy it so "if it ain't broke don't fix it", why did ya buy it?

I too am not totally confident on the stability.

While the titler was getting the initial fanfare, The 32-bit of V8 is why i want to use it. it's the richer color that makes it well worth the measly upgrade price of $99. I'll buy if from B&H, but will probably wait until the 8b upgrade is out to actually switch over to completely editing on it.

As far as I know the upgrade is from any version of Vegas.

The Amazon reseller says it's an upgrade for V7.

Can't say that I'm too happy about this upgrade policy, either. I wasn't really ready for the V8 at the time that it came out, and as a recent retiree, couldn't really afford it, either. But I knew that I would both want and need some of the features eventually, and took the plunge thinking that the "special price" from Sony would be a cost savings. To see the V8 upgrade being sold for $99 retail is kind of a slap in the face for being a Sony loyalist who has always purchased directly in the past.

So what happens with the next release? Do we dare pass on being the early adopters, upgrading directly from Sony, or do we wait and hope for a repeat of this year's experience? With my luck, I'll wait, and they won't do this the same way next time.

I bought it and used it for the multicam feature right after it was released. The time I saved was well worth the difference in the special upgrade price and the 99USD upgrade price. I made more money in less time and paying that little bit extra bothers me none at all.

I bought V6 from B&H for $99 ( NO DVDA), and upgraded it to V8+DVD.

So a $198 V8 should work.

Is this version different from the upgrade disc from Sony that people bought here direct from Sony? Wasn't the Sony version sold direct an upgrade from any version of Vegas? Did they produce two different upgrade discs or was the version sold here a standalone disc with a full install?

As tempting as a $99 upgrade is, I can wait for V9 next year. I don't make a living (or any money) from Vegas, so the extra features it may offer can wait as far as I'm concerned.

Ordered my Vegas Pro 8 Boxed upgrade from B&H for 99 dollars. Arrived in 3 days to Finland.

I bought the upgrade at 11:45 P.M. on Oct. 31st and I am not a happy camper. The $50 is not the issue, even though if Sony knew full well at that time that they would be putting the upgrade out for $50 now, their exhortations of buy now or pay more later would be very close to a deceptive business practice, and maybe actually over the line. What burns me is that I was stampeded into buying at that TIME, before I had the benefit of the free trial to evaluate the Pro-Titler.

So depending on how the verdict finally comes out, this Sony sales hustle could end up costing me $150 not $50.

B&H and other resellers can set their own price. Sony isn't dictating what they charge. Vegas obviously isn't selling like hotcakes, so resellers just want to price it to move it out the door and recover what they paid for it.

Yesterday UPS delivered the “boxed” upgrade to Vegas Pro 8 that I purchased from B&H. Word for word, their website says: “This Upgrade to Vegas Pro 8 Video Editing Software for Windows from Sony allows owners of a previous professional version of Vegas to upgrade to v8 of the software…”

Before ordering the upgrade online, I called B&H on the phone and asked for clarification as to who qualified for the upgrade, and I was told the exact same thing by the salesman . . . that the upgrade was for “owners of a previous professional version of Vegas.” To confirm, he suggested I call Sony Creative Software. So I called Sony and I spoke with someone in sales, who also said that the upgrade to Vegas Pro 8 was for owners of ANY professional version of Vegas, and that my Vegas Audio 2.0 qualified for the upgrade. Since I recently got a new computer running Vista, and have learned (the hard way) to ONLY install software that is Vista compatible, I specifically asked him if there needed to be a previous version of Vegas on my machine for the installation. He said that NO previous version of Vegas was required on my computer, that the upgrade was a stand-alone application, and that it would merely ask me for a serial number.

When I opened the package, the first thing I noticed on this so-called “boxed” upgrade to Vegas Pro 8 from B&H was: “Requires Vegas 6 or 7 software for installation.” Inside was a single disc and that’s pretty much it. Not included were the quick start guides and keyboard command shortcut lists that accompany the “boxed” upgrade sold on Sony’s site. When I tried to install the upgrade to Vegas Pro 8, the installer said I needed Version 7 on my computer to continue, and it would not install.

I think I went to extraordinary lengths to investigate whether this upgrade to Vegas Pro 8 would work in my situation. I read every detail about the upgrade published on the vendor’s website, I made a phone call to the vendor selling the software and I then personally talked to a representative of Sony Creative Software for confirmation.

I was misinformed!

I give the Amazon reseller props for being upfront about the details. It definitely mentions "For upgrade from Vegas 7"

While I don't like having to pay more for something than another person did, I still think we should keep in mind the economics of it all.

We whine about Vegas needing this and that, and when much if it is finally implemented, we then say we're not going to shell out any money for it. We can't have it both ways. Programmers and support staff still need to get paid.

I don't have an argument with that, but you would have to agree that if Vegas 6 or 7 were required to install software you purchased, that stipulation would be clearly stated on the OUTSIDE of the package where those selling it would have no confusion whatsoever as to how they advertise it and what they claim if customers ask.

Mountain Ghost: I think you should definately get your money back.

It states on the B&H Vegas Pro 8 upgrade "Box" that it requires Vegas 6 or 7 for installation. But nowhere on B&H site it says that.

Thats valuable piece of missing information.
