I gotta say, I wasted my money buying the box set. :(

Yeah, they did give a nice Vegas Pro 9 box, but what's in it? Just a software disc, a mini-install guide and S/N, and an ad booklet for other Sony software!

I can't believe they didn't put in at least a shortcut key guide, or the manuals that all came with the Vegas Pro 8 upgrade. THAT is what people buy the boxed product for, IMHO.

I should have just bought the download. :(

This was the first time I have bought the downloadable version... I guess I'm glad I did now.

Yep - I figured it would include the quickstart guides and hopefully the keyboard shortcuts, but the only thing useful in the box I just got (other than the pretty box) was the serial number. Sigh - what do you expect for $200 anyway - the box alone is worth over $100 !!

ScorpioProd et al, I think an email to Customer Service is a good idea.

After all, the upgrade page for Pro 9 says:
Vegas Pro (Packaged)
Includes one application DVD containing Vegas Pro software, DVD Architect Pro software, and product manuals (PDF). (emphasis mine)

Well, yes, we did read that, but often, they don't list everything included, just the main things. Since in the past, when I got a box from them it did include the quickstart guides (but not the full manuals), I was kind of hoping this was the case here. This is more like what I get when I order an OEM drive - 1 drive wrapped in bubble wrap.

mikey, my point was that they said that manuals were included.
Since no one got one, drop them a line and ask what happened to them.

Mike, the keyboard command chart IS on the disc in pdf form.

gpsmikey wrote on 5/15/2009, 12:54 PM
Actually, if you read your post, they don't say the manuals were included - they indicate it includes the manuals(pdf) which would be the pdf version not a printed version. In the past versions however, the full manual was indeed a pdf file, but the quick start quides - 80 pages or so [printed] were included in the upgrade box.

You're correct mikey.
My mistake :-(

No argument from me that we got exactly what we were told we'd get, I even got the box this time.

However again this is another case of SCS needing to manage user expectations better. First impressions count, that's human nature and giving more than's expected gets users expectations off to a good start. Giving less than expected without reading the fine print gives a negative first impression.

I wanted the glossy reference sheet too ;-( who needs serials and programs anyway? ;-)

I just like looking at the BOX..................
gpsmikey wrote on 5/15/2009, 4:33 PM
Hmmm -- maybe I will frame the box and hang it in the entry way here at home :-)

You all already got your boxes How when Mine has not yet arrived how could it be!!!!

Are printed manuals even available from Sony, even for an extra cost? It would usually be cheaper for them to print them in bulk that for us.

Leslie: Not to put too fine a point to it, but isn't "mezuzah" what goes on the door, "Muzzah" the woman who brought me into the world? I do get confused at times!

SCS would have emailed you a Fedex tracking number. Use that to see where your box is having a holiday.

No and yes indeed. This has come up many times.
I seem to recall someone trying to organise a deal to print x number of bound copies to resell. Kind of hinges on SCS agreeing as it's their copyright but I can't imagine them objecting. Bigger problem is you'd want x number of people to commit to pay the printing and friegth costs or you'd be seriously out of pocket.
From my small brush with printing costs the only way to get the costs down is offset printing and for a book of this size you need to print a heck of a lot of copies for it to be any cheaper than printing your own.

I haven't received my box yet... what was the expected delivery date? I forgot and I can't find the info anymore and I can't find any record that I have paid for it. Am I alone? I live in Pennsylvania.
farss wrote on 5/16/2009, 4:47 PM
Looking in My Account>My Orders would be a good place to start.
It's at the very top of this page.

Back around May 11, you should have received an email from Sony where you needed to go back to their site and confirm the payment (including giving them your card number again). You would then have received a confirmation email with the tracking information.

The last time I printed the manual was Vegas 3.0. I don't get the issue here. Much easier to consult a PDF, IMO.
