Id like to add to that request being able to do an update save .
That is when i have done a "Copy all media with project" and then i work a bit more on the project and add say a 50kb snare i would like to be ableto do an "add to media" or update media pool or something.
bit of a bummer to have to save a new 5 gig copy just becaus i added one lousy snare:)
Ok, is this the start of our feature request post? Here's mine.
1. Surround Panning options (5.1, 7.1, 10.2...etc.)
2. Also the ability to (render as) encode surround info via Dolby Pro Logic, or Logic 7 to a stereo mix.
3. Midi Hardware control surface support (Transport and mixer options)
4. Rewire support
5. VSTi/DXi support
6. Record on the fly (ie be able to start recording once playback starts)
7. Envelope tool drawing options (ie sinewaves)
8. Automated Effects
9. Reverse audio event option
10. Multiple envelope editing ability.
11. If I check in the preferences to make the space bar "Play/Pause" instead of "Play/Stop", then turn the enter key into the "Stop" key. I don't think we need 2 pause buttons if we prefer Play/Pause for the space bar.
CD architect Features that are still missing:
12. PQ List/Playlist Editor
13. Print PQ list option
14. "Burn CD" Button
15. Someway to label the end track ID or automatically put a number on it.
( I can never tell when I'm zoomed in and working on the back half of assembling tracks, of what the next track will be without having to zoom out so I can see the beginning track ID) CD architect automatically labeled the front ID and end ID with the track number.
16. Make it so when I place a CD Track ID that the Time display doesn't automatically change to "Audio CD Time".
17. A new name which doesn't include "Vegas" or "Video" and has a reference to "audio".
Installer:
18. Give me the option to select what I want to be installed with the program. Everytime I update the software I have to manually uninstall the Express effects, which I never use.
12. View, Edit Details, Show Audio CD Track List/Events.
13. Click in top-left cell to select entire grid, press Ctrl+C, paste into another application. I agree that printing should be integrated though.
Nothing to do with audio but can I put in a plea for unicode file name support? It's ridiculous not being able to work with a file simply because Vegas (like every other Sonic Foundry appication - including ACID PRO 4.0) can't understand the file name.
I just want the whole burn to VCD thing to cancel its whole process after you decide to cancel while it's rendering to MPEG.. I made a few costers already since I canceled and the process went directly in burn cd mode. I found away to get out of it, ctrl-alt-delete, but it's a hell of a bummer.
iii) Some kind of standard that allows us to insert surround capable directX plugins (I dunno if they exist yet!)
iv) I'd like to have this plugin delay thing some users are experiencing looked into. If somethings found, then something needs to be done!
v) A long public beta stage!
and especially to emphasize OPT support, for MIDI, VSTi, Hardware automation etc.
Preferably I'd like to see control surfaces such as mackie control supported.
Imagine being able to put a true surround reverb into your mix?! wow.
I don't have a problem with it being called vegas... but call it 'Vegas Audio' not 'Video'! or change the name entirely, and leave vegas video to be a recognised as a video app, and come up with a new name for the audio version entirely!!
Some of the less talked about ones I’d like to toss onto the pile:
I’d like the project tempo displayed (and be able to be edited) on the main screen at all times.
I’d like to be able to disable (with no cpu overheads) a plug-in in a chain (as well as the usual bypass and remove options).
I love being able to loop events but I’d like to be able to change the loop points. If I could drag the edges of an event and select a ‘set loop region’ switch I would be a happy boy.
I’d kill for many, many, many more rendering/export options. I’ve heard the SF arguments against these before, but in the real world the lack of flexibility is very frustrating.
...And while I’m at it how about a few little interface things:
When hovering over a plug-in chooser it would be very useful if its tool tip contained the list of the plug-ins that were currently in that chain.
A ‘grid spacing’ drop down linked to the ’enable snapping’ button (just like the one in the Acid piano roll).
The ability to rename files used in the project in the explorer window and the media pool...Gosh almost sounds like destructive editing...I haven’t got a hope...
The ability to resize (increase the size of) the ‘customize toolbar’ dialogue, and the ability to directly drag and drop icons to and from the toolbar when this dialog is open.
...And one really small thing...I’d love to be able to click on the ‘save’ icon and drag and drop it onto the explorer window. This would ‘save as’ the .veg file in the directory opened in the explorer window. I hate navigating to the same place twice.
blimey, I forget to mention alternative time signatures, and a way of adjusting the metronome through the track, (as you can with the cubase master track) for contolled slow-downs / speed ups!
Having the tempo and time signature visible in the main display would be really useful!
- (optional) playback meters per track (preferably that operate in time with the audio).
- A vertical graticule per track (noting a few significant levels, automatically scaled depending on vertical zoom factor)maybe only as markers on the LHS.
- An method of indicating multiple takes of an event, and easier method of switching between.
- track fx metering that works in time with the audio
- project archiving to CD/HDD
- Most distinctive (coloured ?) icons on the toolbars ( for easier rapid ID)
- A way to implement true scrubbing with Contour ShuttlePro and similar
- Menu presets for different the track window control functionality 'heights', ie just vol, vol + bal on same line, vol + bal on separate lines, instead of just 'minimize all'.
>>I’d kill for many, many, many more rendering/export options. I’ve heard the SF arguments against these before, but in the real world the lack of flexibility is very frustrating.
<< Such as?
>>An method of indicating multiple takes of an event, and easier method of switching between
<< How much easier than typing "t" can it get? What alternative method would you suggest?
>>A way to implement true scrubbing with Contour ShuttlePro and similar
<< Define "true scrubbing".
Very simply the appearance of Acid’s ‘save each track as a separate file’ would make my life sooooooooo much easier. (A raw files / post effects option would make things even better).
I’d love to be able to import and export .wav files that contained embedded song position data...I have absolutely no idea if that is the correct way of describing that...but you know what I mean (I hope?)
Within Vegas I’d love to be able to export/import selected tracks...The drums sound great in this mix and the vocals great in this other one. If only it was as simple as copying tracks from one session and pasting them into another?
I can even see this wacky ‘Export as ACID project’ hallucination (and a corresponding Vegas option in ACID). I’d love to be able to swap projects between the two apps (without loosing all control by having to render everything down).
...It’s getting late, can probably come up with a few more if you want me to. ;-)
the ability to change volume, pan and fx, when a track is armed. Its rough on customers to have to stop, disarm, stop, arm, blah, just to change volumes and things. Blows the vibe and flow
How about:
1. True rms metering with time constant adjust to expand metering usefullness on output buss (at least) by providing a gauge of apparent loudness.
2. A properties list, hopefully one-click away or better yet continually visible, that shows every DX plug-in instantiation and where it is used (which track or buss). This would also be useful to have as a reference when archiving projects to keep out of plug-in revision management hell.
3. Better grouping controls for track events. Perhaps I just haven't figured it out, but I keep struggling with editing some time in or out of the middle of a piece, and being able to slide a bunch of grouped events across multiple tracks, all staying together while I zoom in to one track to do a precision cross fade.
4. Fix the bug that occurs when altering the time and pitch of short events. Either the math is wrong and or it's just the display. Try taking a short event and raising it +5 cents.
lets not forget making buss fx PRE fader so we can have some volume control! Buss tracks will still be near useless automation wise, if turning them up only lowers the compressor threshold
I agree Pipeline. There's some other really good suggestions in this post. I forget one of my pet peaves with SF software on my original post.
19. Different color scheme on insert indicators.
Explanation: On both Acid and Vegas, when there are inserts within a channel or bus it indicates that there is an insert active (light on). I usually like to have inserts like EQ's and compressors on every channel, but I usually uncheck them putting them in the bypass mode, but like to have them there ready when I need to make an EQ active. Having them in bypass still indicates that an insert is active, although they're not. Maybe a tri-state color indication would be useful to show 1. If inserts are in a channel(green) 2. If inserts are active in a channel(red) 3. If there is NO inserts in a channel (grey). Currently with the way I like to work, every insert indicator is ON although nothing is active and makes the feature of having an indicator light useless.
>>Nothing to do with audio but can I put in a plea for unicode file name support? It's ridiculous not being able to work with a file simply because Vegas (like every other Sonic Foundry appication - including ACID PRO 4.0) can't understand the file name.
<< We are actually very UNICODE aware in our code, we just don't ship UNICODE binaries.
Sounds like a good plan, and while were at it on inserts, if you bypass an insert fx is it still taking CPU ?
Also can we have different colors for the fx send envelopes? I get confused which one is FX 1 and which one is FX 2 etc... and a show hide fx envelopes, like the show hide pan and volume envelopes on the toolbar
1) More colors for track ID-ing.
2) an export all individual tracks option.
3) The ability to import/export ACID projects.
4) Must have OMF export.
5) Possibly OMF export.
6) How about some OMF export.
Okay...I’ve thought about it a little more and I’ve come up with (what I reckon might be) a pretty nifty way you could implement some of this import/export stuff...
Wouldn’t it be way, way, way cool if you could export events just by dragging them straight from the timeline and dropping them onto the explorer window?
But not just single events. It would be really excellent if you could grab a bunch of events, drop them into a directory and Vegas saved them as a single consolidated wav file (Probably via a dialogue that gave you all sorts of (pre/post, rate, depth, etc) options).
Using the same approach you could also grab entire tracks (track lists) and export them as a mini .veg file that contained only the data of the selected track(s).
Can we, can we please?
...Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?... :-)
