sounds like you're just asking for an extention of the "Save as" .Veg file. Couldn't see this ever making it into a .Wav, just because the format of .Wav is already outlined and not controled by Sonic Foundry. Actually you can almost do what you're doing now, by just opening 2 instances of Vegas and selecting the events you want in 1 project and then dragging it over to the other project and then hitting save.
PipelineAudio wrote on 10/19/2002, 11:04 AM
that would be good for another vegas project, but I think he means so you could take all the tracks ( with them in the proper place in time ) and pop em into another app

Oh, then I think he is referring to OMF support then right?

Yikes, looks like I have been writing spaghetti again.

I’ll have another bash at it:

Firstly: If I put together several events to make a single musical phrase (say for example a drum loop constructed in the chopper or a comped vocal), I’d like to be able to easily merge these events into a single file. In effect, a very simple ‘Export Selected Events’ option that seamlessly integrated into the interface.

Secondly: I’d like to be able to simply export/import individual Vegas tracks via drag and drop. Not only the events, but entire tracks (envelopes, effect chains, bus assignments, the lot)

To import into the application you drag media in from the explorer window to the timeline. I think it would be really straightforward and logical if that process also worked in reverse.

[shrugs shoulders] Does any of that make sense?

To switch, sure 'T', but to see at a glance with 20 tracks and several events per track which events do have mutliple takes is not so easy (unless I've missed something so far...)

If playing, turning the scrub wheel currently jolts down to slow-forward instead of increasing from '1x'(ie is absolute position-dependant rather than 'relative'). Again, this may be just my lack of knowledge of how to implement what's already there. I'll take this one to a new thread, because it's probably possible already.

11) Midi.
12) VSTi support
13) VTS support
14) Plugin automatization.
15) Good sincro with other machines (Support for Sony 9 pin, Adat & DA88, and any other machines)

New:

15) Systemlink

Bye

Geoff,
The feature you're talking about already got implemented in Vegas 3 new features. Place the cursor on the timeline where an audio event is not present. Press the Cntrl key and hover the mouse where the cursor line is. It will turn into a scrub tool which you can vary the speed in the forward and reverse direction and alter the speed by moving the mouse.

Hey Red,

I just tried dragging and dropping from one Vegas instance into another but the apps did not want to play ball.

Is this actually possible?

Yeah, but I want to do it with my Shuttle Pro controller.

Sorry for the wrong info Weevil. Actually you have to select the events and do a Copy and then goto the other instance of Vegas and do a Paste.

Yes, this is how Dave instructed me to do it when he was helping me sort out a problem I was having a couple of months ago.

"Oh, then I think he is referring to OMF support then right"

we can only dream!

I think just like hitting a button and having it render all tracks from start to finish, each saved as their own wav.

and hey, what does " multiple mono " and " multiple stereo" in the template box in tools/render to new track do ?

Nup.

Indeed

We can do it in ACID! Why not in the big V?

>and hey, what does " multiple mono " and " multiple stereo" in the template box in >tools/render to new track do ?

From memory it gives you the option of rendering each bus as either single combined stereo files or as separate left and right files.

I'd like to be able to define a portion of the timeline and have it "loop record" so that I could do multiple overdubs in one go. Ideally this would be teamed with MIDI input.

Spirit -
Unless I'm misunderstanding you, you can already do this and I do it all the time:

1) create a time selection on an empty track.
2) Enable looping
3) Record. It will continuously record into the selection.
4) Then you can toggle between takes (which exist in the same event) with the T key. An you can even mix and match at that point by splitting the event and using different takes in each event.

OR

1) if you want pre-roll and post-roll, create an empty event or create a split in the event you want to record into.
2) Select the event.
3) Create a time selection around the event giving yourself as much pre-roll and post roll as you want.
4) make sure to create the selection on above the ruler bar so you don't unselect the selected event. Always make sure it's the only thing selected on the record-enabled track.
5) record with looping turned on.
6) Now choose your takes with the T key.

Do this with as many tracks as you want. It's the most brilliant punching I've ever seen.

Thanks very much for the info. I usually do my audio in AcidPro and video in VV3 so I wasn't aware of this beautiful feature. It's not quite what I was after - but perhaps in some ways better :)
CDM wrote on 10/24/2002, 12:23 PM
If I were you, unless you need looping, DO ALL YOUR audio in Vegas!! It's got everything Acid does and A LOT more. If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask.
barleycorn wrote on 11/13/2002, 2:44 PM
Would it really be that difficult to add this functionality? The Text and Credit Roll generators seem to understand unicode well enough. Is there such a difference when it comes to file names?
Skaven wrote on 11/26/2002, 3:25 AM
Yeah, except for non-destructive event reversal, which Acid already has (AFAIK) but Vegas still doesn't. What gives? (been waiting, like, forever for that feature)
waynegee wrote on 11/26/2002, 5:34 PM
1)Midi***
2)Meters (that can be de-activated if using too much CPU-age)
