The Event Pan/Crop tool can be used to zoom in/out, but at a constant rate between position points. Is there a way in Vegas Pro to zoom with a variable speed, such as slowing the zoom rate at the end?
Just right-click the keyframe in question and assign it something other than Linear to control the motion acceleration or deceleration. I find "Smooth" to be the best general setting for the start and end of a 2 keframe "move"...
Add another keyframe closer to the end (for a 10 sec. zoom, try around the 6 or 7 sec. mark) and change the position of it so that it's zoomed in a bit more than it was.
I tried at with a still and it works ok.
I set the first keyframe to Smooth and the middle and last ones to linear. This helped to smooth out the otherwise annoying bump at the second keyframe.

Play with the keyframe interpolation numbers. They allow a good range.
My favorite setting for smooth pan/crop movements use 3 keyframes
-Position 1st keyframe set to: Slow
-Position last keyframe, pan/crop the frame set the last keyframe to: Slow
-Add keyframe between the the 1st and last keyframe set to: Fast.
Demo:
Just setting the first keyframe to Fast and the last keyframe to Slow works nicely also:
Thanks to all of you for your quick and helpful responses!
I had not noticed the zoom options before!
Byron's slow-fast-slow zoom demo is just the effect I was after!
So, I'm doing maybe 20 slides for a 40 minute talk. I can get the PowerPoint before the talk and extract the slides to .jpg. So I did that on a different instance of Vegas Pro to get them all setup beforehand. Then, it's an easy ALT-TAB to pick up the next slide while the video talk instance is playing, and I'm listening for where to insert the next slide. Cool.
But it's hard to know how long to display the slide, so most get the time adjusted. And the zoom markers don't move with the time adjustment, so I have to move them again.
Is there an option I'm missing that will move the markers proportionately with the change in the slide's duration?

You can time shrink/stretch still images on a track above the presentation track by Control+dragging one end of the event and your Pan/Crop key frames will move proportionately.
