There appear to be a couple of related topics going on in this thread, hope I'm not confusing anyone by jumping back to my few posts above - but AVCHD is specifically what I was talking about and assumed (incorrectly) it's what you meant when you said that MC4 did full framerate at 1080p w/o using their codec. If one has to transcode to the MC codec on ingest for AVCHD source I'd rather use Vegas with Cineform, though I understand you also have CC needs that MC handles well.

what makes you think this is a Vegas issue and not a cineform one? I've used Cineform a few times (not just in Vegas either) and had nothing but trouble with it

You raise a valid point and I'm still wrestling with this project this morning.

I dread the idea of rebuilding the project since all 420+ files are scene split CF Neo Scene AVI's and Vegas will only capture a straight one shot m2t files from tape - HDV Split is hit and miss for me but I may have to give this another shot.

I haven't thrown in the towel completely just yet, but the number of times I have to continuously wrestle with this is becoming a discourse in futility.

"the avid codecs are installed into the QUICKTIME/QTcomponents folder"

Thanks Bill; that makes sense. Misinformation (from Avid) is worse than no information.

"Does Sony Vegas have a customer support? (I know, they say they do)"

I know for a FACT they do. I've had problems a number of times and each time I have filed a ticket with them, they have replied within 24 hrs.

But like I said Bill... as soon as MC works its way into THIS century, I will certainly pay it some attention. That is if it (and Avid) are still around.

24 hours... Ok.

I don't give a hoot if MC is 10th century. It runs on my hardware, it hasn't crashed, and I am cutting on it in three days faster than I was cutting on Vegas.

It's the fastest 10-bit capable editor I've ever seen. Period.

You bash it all you like.

You show me a NLE that doesn't crash from time to time..... and I'll show you a figment of your imagination :)

Um,

Ok, it hasn't crashed on ME. Meanwhile, I've 2 restarts in Vegas today, and 4 failure to writes. Vegas 8 was a LOT more solid. I still run that on my laptop machine for some things and it just works. Unfortunately, the XDCam workflow is far less convenient forcing me to go through ClipBrowser.

"Ok, it hasn't crashed on ME."

Well, I can say the same thing about Vegas. It's working for me right now. On the other hand it's not for Cliff (and a few others). So I guess what it comes down to is finding a workflow that agrees with both you AND the nle you happen to be working with. That being the case, then it would be impossible for you to state MC to be stable for some one else that doesn't share YOUR exact workflow. As can be seen in that google search thread.... there are plenty of MC users having issues, and of course the same can be said for vegas... PPro... Edius.... You have found your little comfort zone within MC... but you can't make that guaranty to myself, Cliff, your next door neighbor...etc

But if you're saying MC doesn't crash... please don't.... because as can be seen.... it does.
