great new audio features

speed seems to pick up where 9.0e left off

but seems to be less stable on my system at least...

it managed to crash simply browsing up one folder on "open project"

what is that 3 icons (that can't click) on the top-right of video event fx?

Take a look at my latest newsletter (http://www.jetdv.com/vegas/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3837) and I explain them. Short answer, they're used with the new OpenFX plugins!

Wish Track Grouping had a Mute button for each group. Or even better full Folder Track functionality.

i did tests with RAW HDV 50i footage on an old dual core running seven x64 with 4G ram. At playback, VP9 would deliver 13 fps, VP10 is fluid !!!

I really like the transport buttons in the preview windows.

I missed the VU meters in the audio console, it's cool to see them even if I find the colors somewhat surprising. ;)

The long awaited track grouping is nice and there's room for little enhancements in this area.

It's an very quick test but at first glance I'm very positive about V10.

The sync cursor now works with generated media (I can’t find any info in the release notes).

Well spotted Gilles! I know Grazie will like this one!

>"is 10 better or should I just stik with my 9? (I have the free upgrade thing)."

The upgrade price has been called a no-brainer, so if you can get it free .....

get the upgrade, but don't use it till you're starting a new project, just a rule of thumb ( don't change versions of software mid project unless necessary )

>I like the new way the trimmer displays the in point and out point when stopped and the cursor location when running. It is going to take a little bit to change my thought process, but I do like it.

Keith, I'm looking at the trimmer in VP10 and don't understand the difference you describe. What should I be looking for?

Agreed! It is typical, when we get a new fantastic feature, we want more.. I have the same wish, and I think they will wait with it until experience is gained with the track groups as it is now.
Track grouping was on my wish list always, now it is here!

Not 'when we get it we want more" - I have been asking for full folder tracks since many versions ago ! This is merely a tip-toe in that direction ;-)

I get more crashes than ever before. One type, which appears more often than not, is when I select to open a new project from the File menu of the current project. My workaround is to first open "NEW" project, using the icon and from there open the project I had intended to before the crash. This happens to me almost every time, but not always. If Vegas doesn't crash, I often get the newly selected project with all clips in place but no imagery so I have to use the same workaround to reopen it. I've reported this to Sony.

Are you really saying (first post in this list) that FINALLY we have a Vegas NLE that takes in the .MOV Canon EOS 5D Mark II video clips without any problem??? Please reassure me I am not dreaming!!! As soon as you do, I promise I'll buy the upgrade!
Massimo Rossi wrote on 10/13/2010, 12:51 AM
Yes, you are NOT dreaming !!! On a "normal" PC the Canon EOS 5D Mark II clips play perfectly smooth, without any problem. I though this was impossible with my PC, but now I see it right in front of me, and it's wonderful. On the same machine, V9 plays the same files at 10-15 FPS.

Sony has done a GREAT job of code optimization. When they want, they can...

Hope we will see the same effort put in all other critical areas of Vegas (resample, rescaling, crop, PiP, compositing/alpha blending, main video FX, ...): this would be simply marvellous.

Bye.

What's better?

I like the new user interface for keyframing Video FX:

1) Once you zoom the Video FX track, it stays zoomed, see: http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?Forum=4&MessageID=716496

2) The Shortcut keys, Cntl+RightArrow & Cntl+LeftArrow (i.e. move to the next keyframe) now seem to be working properly). In 9.0e, these shortcuts only moved close to the next keyframe for me.

Just purchased the upgrade, along with Production Assistant 2.0. Haven't had a lot of time to play with it yet, but here are my faves (in no particular order):
- Track grouping. (Yes, I want more! Group mute and group-level FX would be the bomb!)
- Audio event level FX. ('Bout time!)
- Here's an obscure one that just saved me a bundle: the ability to transcode to Cineform .MOV files (if you have a Cineform product installed). Didn't really want to shell out for the upgrade for NeoScene to Neo HD. Now I don't have to, and I can share Cineform files with my collaborator, who uses Final Cut.

Had a few stability problems early on, but running Windows Update and updating Cineform to the latest version seems to have smoothed them out.

lol@Ingvar, I was thinking the same thing. Absolutely loving Vegas 10 but as soon as I tried grouping the first thing I wanted to do and tried was to add an effect to the group ... not yet! I'm sure muting and group level effects will be somewhere down the line.

So far one crash when I was using the 8 key on the numb keys to move a short clip up about 8 tracks but so far that hasn't repeated, not sure what all I had going on at that moment so could have been any number of things.

I think my favorite thing about it is that it just feels "lighter", everything bout it just feels less clunky, heavy and taxing, smoother. I've always thought Vegas had an edge in this department but it seems even more so now with this latest release. And I'm still using the 32 bit for Magic Bullet, can't wait till I can do everything I want to do in 64.

My wish list still has motion tracking on it, one of these days Sony, one of these days!
