Vegas 10e Freezes At Launch

This one's been around a while, but I can't find a cure.

Vegas 10e is freezing at launch while "Creating file I/O manager..."

I've searched for fixes and tried the following to no avail:

1. Complete uninstall/reinstall of Vegas.
2. Replacing FileIO Plug-Ins "aviplug.dll" with the one found in Vidcap Plug-ins
3. Applying default settings using CTRL+Shift at launch
4. System restore to yesterday...when everything worked correctly
5. No new software has been installed

What am I missing? Anyone...anyone?

Thanks!

Wild guesses: Quicktime? Windows Media Player?

Fixed the problem. On a whim, I downloaded and ran "Malwarebytes" free version. Found 3 little boogers which I deleted. Re-launched Vegas...problem gone!

interesting to know. i run malwarebytes regularly on all my pc's that are connected to the net and occasionally find one or two 'minor' nasties on laptops i've lent out....

Nick, you may have been on to something. Before deleting the malware, my Windows Media Player had a slight "hang" on startup. Just a couple of seconds, so I never really worried about it. Now, it pops right up and starts normally. I'm anxious to see what other little lights and gizmos show improvement!
