Vegas 11 can't render to Mainconcept AVC MP4

Hello David,

Unfortunately the Vegas implementation of the MainConcept H.264 plugin is spotty, at best. In Vegas 9 and 10, if you actually look at the output video specs in Media Info, it will always have 5 reference frames - regardless of what you try to set it to in the video specs render section - and if you want an actual CBR video, you are stuck with the default choices, or do as you did, set the variable parameters to be the same, which is not true CBR anyway.

It is my understanding that iPods, etc., can't play video with 5 reference frames as it exceeds the "baseline low complexity" standard Apple uses. Yet, it is called iPod compatible. Has anyone been able to transfer an MP4 made with Vegas 9 or 10 to an iDevice without converting it in iTunes? I think Vegas 11 actually makes just 2 reference frames for the MC version; at least it did on the trial I checked out.

MP4 is a very important web format, and it seems Sony should try harder to make it better in Vegas. MainConcept's plugin is limited and has issues actually applying the parameters you set when encoding, and it seems the Sony version has issues as well - when it is working at all. I could not make an MP4 using Sony's plugin when I trialed 11 at all. When Adobe Premiere ELEMENTS is a much better format for making web video than a professional NLE, there is a problem. Elements even makes a better looking Sony PSP compatible video than Sony Vegas does as well, for whatever reason.

I have the same problem .... can't render to MP4 ..... my old computer without GPU acceleration works fine .... my new computer with a GTX690 won't render to MP4 though - EVEN WITH GPU ACCELERATION turned to NONE !!!

(see also my post GTX 260 faster than GTX690)

I get the same error every time as well, but I know it's because I changed out my 2 XFX 6970's and replaced them with 2 EVGA 680 FTW. Which before I did not have that issue now I have to select render with cpu only. This is an issue that really needs to be worked out & the cards need to be added so they are compatible with SVP.

I too had this problem with AVC and couldn't render even with GPU acceleration set to off. My projects and renders were set to 1080 50p. I found that if I set the audio to stereo instead of 5.1 this worked all the time even with GPU acceleration on.

Then all of a sudden with no changes made, I could render with 5.1 audio. Strange but it saved my bacon as the only other format I want is Mainconcept mpg2 1080 50p which gets that error message all the time. Just does not like 1080 50p.

Vegas really need a fix for this. having 1 usable template is tolerable for me but doesn't leave many options!

Same issue here. Render using only the CPU fixed the issue for my HP workstation.

Graphics card: ATI Radeon HD 5400

I also have the same issue, a little mad about it as I bought this card (gtx670), as being supported from the sony vagas software website. I spent all the money on it but it can't be used.. not thrilled, hope they have a fix

Thank you so much. I have been trying to work this out for ages and have been rendering in poor quality. Now I can render in HD no problem thanks to you post on the encoding mode. Thank you sooooooo much!
