VEGAS 12 /14 - My testing 4K edit and render

pierre-k wrote on 11/28/2016, 1:19 PM

Source - AVC 25fps progressive, 4096x2160x12

Clean install Windows 7 x64
Processor: Intel Xeon CPU E3 - 1231 v3 3,40Ghz
RAM 16GB

Editing:
VEGAS 12 ....... 3 - 6 fps (Preview (half)
VEGAS 14 ........ 25fps (Full Preview).

When Transition simple or simple ProType Titler in V14 is 20fps.

After repeated GPU on / off and retrying is simple Transition 15 - 3fps. I've never reach 20 frames.

Rendering 10sec. shot, the quality of BEST

VEGAS 12
Sony AVC - is not working
Mainconcept  AVC - 4K need to make your own profile. ---- CUDA with GTX970 - 1:20 minutes
Mainconcept  AVC - 4K need to make your own profile. ----  CPU  -  1:20 minutes
Sony XAVC - MXF  - 0:37 minutes

VEGAS 14
Sony AVC - is not working
MainConcept AVC - 4K need to make your own profile. ---- CUDA with GTX970 - 1:24 minutes
MainConcept AVC - 4K need to make your own profile. ---- CPU - 1:20 minutes
Magix Prores 422 ---- 1:41 minutes
Magix Prores HQ ---- 1:41 minutes
Magix Prores XQ ---- 1:41 minutes
Intel HEVC (ignoring my settings 4096x2160. Renders 3840x2160) ----- 2:40 minutes
Sony XAVC - MXF - 0:37 minutes

I would welcome a truly functional feature - NO-RECOMPRESS RENDERING FOR AVC HD AND 4K.

Conclusion:

A simple cut is a good V14. On complex projects we will have to wait for full support for the newer GPU.
AVC MP4 size is 46 megabytes, Sony XAVC has 275 megabytes, Magix Prores is by the quality of 850 megabytes - 1.27 gigabytes.

Working Processor:
editing with GPU: 43%
editing without GPU: 32% (without GPU works less ???)
rendering GPU / CPU: equal to 85 - 90%

GPU function for GTX970  is purely decorative. I look forward to VEGAS 15

Yes. The Sony AVC can change their own resolution to 4K, but an pop up a dialog - An error Ocurred while creating th media file Untitled.mp4. An invalid argument was specified.

With Sony AVCHD not change the resolution to 4K. Render only NTSC PAL HD and Full HD and only interlaced.

MainConcept is working well.

Sony AVC - unfunctional ?

unfunctional  = is not working :-)

Thanks for this useful testing. Sony AVC will throw an "invalid argument" error if you render >1920x1080 even though you can type in greater figures. I have amended this post to reflect that.
