Vegas 15 - XML bug. Davinci media offlines

Komaryt wrote on 9/15/2017, 7:32 AM

Hello, I bought Vegas 15 instead of Vegas 14 and now I regret... Because of one stupid bug. I like to edit movies in Vegas and then I like to export it to XML and import XML into DaVinci an there I just color grade every clip but now I can't do it because of export XML.

When I export XML all is great, there is no error but when I import XML into DaVinci there is a big strange problem. All my clips are Offline - but I have them in Media Pool. And the stupid thing is that when I add some other clips which are used in project they just replace all my clips used in project. I wrote straight to support but they just answer me so long and I need to end that movies as soon as it is possible. I just cannot wait for them to answer. I was looking any clue and fix in other forums but nobody have the same issue like me.

I hope that maybe you guys can help me. I will be really, really grateful.

yeah I also tried different versions of the 'roundtrip' and unfortunately didn't succeed.. :-/

my current Win10/64 system (latest drivers, water cooled) :

Intel Coffee Lake i5 Hexacore (unlocked, but not overclocked) 4.0 GHz on Z370 chipset board,

32GB (4x8GB Corsair Dual Channel DDR4-2133) XMP-3000 RAM,

Intel 600series 512GB M.2 SSD system drive running Win10/64 home automatic driver updates,

Crucial BX500 1TB EDIT 3D NAND SATA 2.5-inch SSD

2x 4TB 7200RPM NAS HGST data drive,

Intel HD630 iGPU - currently disabled in Bios,

nVidia GTX1060 6GB, always on latest [creator] drivers. nVidia HW acceleration enabled.

main screen 4K/50p 1ms scaled @175%, second screen 1920x1080/50p 1ms.

I tried a lot of tricks like exporting to AAF and other kind of files, but even when I import AAF to davinci there is other bug something like - "there is no timeline" or similar quote - Im not sure now.

I have other clue - I edit it in Vegas 15 and then I copy entire project to Vegas 14 trial.. yeah... trial... I have vegas 14 only for 10 days and I need to make movies all the year so 10 days will not help me a lot.
Even I don't have any reply from vegas support :/

It seems that none of the export formats have been updated. They do not work for me at least with Vegas 14 or Vegas 15 trial... Importing a still image sequence through the xml file generated with Vegas results in a bug in Resolve. Half the links won't be read etc...

Has anybody succeed in exporting a project to Resolve or an other NLE... or can we conclude that export functions in Vegas are pretty useless right now ?

Just edit in Davinci Resolve 14. Instead of paying for Vegas Pro v15, I decided to buy Davinci Resolve Pro v14, which is a much better NLE for a cheaper price.

I had tried to do roundtrips in Vegas v14 and it is full of bugs, same applies to Vegas v15.

I cannot. Davinci is shit for me in editing, so much laggy I need to wait so much time to cut some clips and then preview it, it's just terrible.

I tried experiment with this simple sequence, and here's what I had:

My current trouble is the timeline is 'upside-down'. While the error messages is quite confusing.

This is normal for me that timeline is upside-down. I'm used to it.
But you see - a lot of footage is offline. And I have offline footage even if clips are in media pool.

So my hot-fix is that I need to edit it in Vegas15, then I need to open Vegas14 and then I can export XML but I told that I need to use V14 trial because I don't want to buy it if I have V15...

I wonder if that could have to do with media type, codec etc? my clips were all XAVC-S and none would show up :-/

Man it just waste of our time to fight with shitty XML export from V15.. I don't know what is going on, but if I pay 600$ for newer version I expect to be better than older version. And now V15 is so slower than V14 and XML export is just not working - this is very important for me.

I was using in project files type: .mov h.264 (rendered from AAE) and .mov straight from DSLR and all my clips which were straight from my DSLR are not seen in DaVinci. Clips which I rendered in AAE are seen but not all.

I hope that support will make some patch for it - for better export and better performance because on my PC Vegas14 is just like torpedo or racing car and V15 for me is like kid riding on bicycle. So many lags I haven't smooth preview - always lags. No matter how many and what plug-ins I used.

As for MVI (Canon DSLRs?), I need to experiment further with it, but so far I know I think it should be compatible. But I can confirm from my personal tests (which uses AVCHD media), I had some trouble with it too.

I'm not a Resolve expert, I'm still learning it, but so far that's some challenges when working with Resolve. A file format supports are more limited.

As for timeline upside down, I guess it's because Vegas Pro's track number start from top to bottom... while Resolve or other common editor, video track number start from bottom to up.

Wow, man! You are best. V15 now is working like lightning :D Thank you so much! I didn't even think that might be problem with some new decoder.

Maybe someone know how to automatic synchronize many clips? Plural eyes is don't working for me because it analyze maybe 98% of project and then it freeze :(

If you are referring to Trim, then it is getting used to Keyboard shortcuts. As far as slow is concerned... Here is an example from my Acer V17 Nitro, 16 GB RAM, 8GB vRAM. I had a 15 clip with NewBluFx ColorFast 2 applied. Vegas Pro v15 takes 3.25 hours to render it as 1080p MP4. Resolve v14 took 28 minutes to render it as 1080p MP4. that is a big time difference which translates to almost 3 hours saving!!!! I use Vegas now only for my old project which were done in Vegas. I do not plan to spend $$$ on an old version of Vegas with a new interface but no almost no new efficient features.

Two points:

1) Rendering performance is not the same timeline editing performance, and

2) Are you comparing "apples to apples" when rendering? (ie are the two mp4's equivalent?).

I noticed that Resolve is very limited in it's render formats.

Exactly same clip and same FX added to it comparison. You cannot have a better apple to apple comparison. Editing performance of Resolve is same as Vegas. As I said it a matter of getting used to different keyboard shortcuts for faster editing.

Anyway, in this case, no trimming or anything was done. Clip imported, and NewBlueFX colorfast 2 added, set the Blue Sky preset of Colorfast and render as MP4 1080p. Resolve rendered in 3 hours quicker than Vegas 15.

Davicin is rendering mine projects so fast but what keyboard shortcuts have to performance. Of course u can edit faster when u know shortcuts but what if my clips are loading so long and I comfortable cut them or replace?

In V15 edit is so fast now. There are no lags and other shitty stuff like in davinci so I am using V15 to edit and DaVinci for grading but now I cannot export XML so I don't use davinci...

When you are used to keyboard shortcuts shortcuts, you cut fast use other commands. That's what keyboard has to do with the faster edit. Not sure what kind of lags are experiencing in Davinci Resolve. I use Studio version, instead of free version. THere are obvious performance differences between free and Studio version.

Free does not have CUDA hardware acceleration and there are other performance issues. You cannot complain of performance as a free software user.

I can complain.
I wanted to use for some time free version instead buying it blind because I didn't know if it will meet my expectations. And I am not happy with this performance.

And I think that free versions of some software are made because of buying it in the future but this free version really rejected me from purchase.

You are aware what they are doing? Motivate more and more customers to Switch to the Studio Version to earn some revenues ... what is something that I understand since they have the development costs for the Software.

Komaryt wrote on 10/20/2017, 11:54 AM

Nope! It's not alright. I was talking with blackmagic support why clips with 50fps and 25fps are like media offline when DaVinci is supporting mixed framerates.

So the thing is - that Sony Vegas have something wrong with XML export because the same think is in Premiere and FCPX - softwares are not reading mixed framerates. Only Vegas is reading it good.

I hope that Magix will do with this something and fix it

CUDA is supported in the free version - go into your preferences and you can select CUDA as the rendering option and it will recognize your nVidia based GPU.
