Vegas 17 freezing on load at Create Plug-in Factory

emmo5611 wrote on 12/23/2020, 6:07 AM

I have been using Vegas since version 4 never had the following problem until three days ago. When I go to load Vagas 17 (build 452) I keep getting an error message when it starts to load the Creating Video Plug-in Factory. I have tried reinstalling it numerous times, did a complete erasing of everything Vegas and reinstalled it, opened it as an admin, and still nothing. I reached out to the Vegas team three days ago and still have not heard back from them. I am at my wits end with this. Vegas is hands down the best editor on the market in terms of ease of use, but only if I can get it to open. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have literally searched the internet for solutions but not has worked. Deleting all my plug-ins and reinstalling them seems like a last resort, I really hope I can fix this without doing all that work. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You did a reset, too (control-shift) on startup?

Beyond that temporarily rename the Ofx folder or contents as you try to figure out what changed?

emmo5611 wrote on 12/23/2020, 7:43 AM

While I could get it to open by hitting ctrl/shift that is not a work around I want to do every time I want to open the software.

Here is the actual error:

RogerS wrote on 12/23/2020, 8:02 AM

It's only a workaround you should need to do once. The second time gave that error?

Do you have Sapphire installed? I've seen problem reports. I think time to move some plugins until you figure out the offender.

emmo5611 wrote on 12/23/2020, 8:04 AM

Yes it worked the first time, but unless I always hold down the ctrl/shift it won't open.

I am a total noob with this. How and where do I begin doing that?

RogerS wrote on 12/23/2020, 8:41 AM

If you search the forums there is advice on this.

Try going to C:\Program Files\Common Files\OFX\Plugins, taking the bundles of plugins and just copying them to another folder for now. Then start Vegas, which hopefully should work without issue. Then begin to add them back in until Vegas gives an error on startup.

If you have any idea which plugin went bad (recent update?) perhaps test that one first and save some time.

emmo5611 wrote on 12/23/2020, 9:33 AM

So you're saying take the Ofx files, cut them, paste them to another drive, the add them back in one at a time....correct?

j-v wrote on 12/23/2020, 9:51 AM

The best way it looked to me is to
1. Rename the OFX map to C:\Program Files\Common Files\OFXold.
2. If the start now goes, rename again, but do the same with all the plugins inside that map or if you think you know the most suspected ones only.
3. After that give them one by one their real name back and see which one is causing your problem.
4. Than you could go and look if there is a newer version of that Fx available.
(BTW. Normally it that one has to be named in the TOTAL error report)

Yes, take the bundles (subfolders within Ofx), copy them to another folder somewhere else (i.e. desktop/ofx) and then put them back one at a time until you find the problem child. Then delete and try to reinstall/update that one.

Thanks to you all, that did it. It was some Red Giant plug-ins that were the culprit. I appreciate the timely help. Now I need to get back to work. Happy Hollidays!

Any chance you would know how to get Vegas to recognize Boris FX COntinuum? I have the ones that came with Vegas, but I am trying to get it to load Boris FX Continuum 11 on Vegas 17 and or 18

RogerS wrote on 12/23/2020, 8:11 PM

@emmo5611 Did you search the forum for exactly this? Others had issues and figured out how to resolve it. I don't use Boris so don't have direct experience.
