Vegas 18.0 Keeps Freezing With Videos

Belle wrote on 9/7/2021, 2:32 PM

For some background, I have VEGAS Pro 18.0 on 2 devices: one is a laptop with Windows 10, the other is a computer with an older Windows, don't know the exact number. I decided to start editing on my laptop because it renders MUCH faster. However, whenever I drag video into it and attempt editing, the screen will freeze after a few moments. The only way to get out is to restart my computer. I've made hour long videos with only audio and pictures and it went smoothly, for some reason it just doesn't like videos. The older computer doesn't do this. Does anyone else have a similar problem, and is there a way to fix it?

Another thing to keep in mind is that I haven't updated Vegas on either computer. The update gives me two options: update when the software is closed, or update immediately. No matter which I choose, it says it can't update with Vegas open and cancels. Don't know whether that correlates with the laptop's problem though, since the main computer is fine despite this.

Ahh my bad, I wasn't aware of the name change, sorry about that. I have VEGAS pro 18.0, not what I said before.

Thank you for the update link! I got it to update, but when uploading video clips into the system or trying to edit, it still says the system has stopped working and freezes.

Did you go to help/driver update within Vegas to update any GPU drivers? Very important esp. if you have an AMD processor with Radeon graphics.

Beyond that try resetting Vegas. https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-can-i-reset-vegas-pro-to-default-settings--104646/

I have, there weren't any available updates. I tried resetting like you suggested, but the same problem still occurs.

Thank you for your help so far! I'm still newer to all this computer stuff. My CPU is Ryzen 5 (specifically AMD Ryzen 5 3500U with Radeon Vega Mobile Gfx 2.10 GHz). My GPU is AMD Radeon(TM) Vega 8 Graphics. I used MediaInfo on VEGAS and got this:

General
Complete name                            : C:\Users\HP\Downloads\vegaspro18edit_dlm_eij3hp.exe
Format                                   : MZ
Format profile                           : Executable / Intel i386
File size                                : 5.84 MiB
Encoded date                             : UTC 2019-09-25 16:37:40

Please let me know if something is unclear or downright wrong, haha.

There have been many reports of issues with Radeon Graphics (iGPU). I'd consider trying the latest drivers from AMD here: https://www.amd.com/en/support/apu/amd-ryzen-processors/amd-ryzen-5-mobile-processors-radeon-vega-graphics/amd-ryzen-5-1

For MediaInfo you need to use it on your media (video file) not on Vegas itself.

I apologize for the late response. Is there a specific latest driver from AMD that you'd recommend? And when you say media/video file, does that mean the file of the project I was working on in Vegas?

@Belle this one: Adrenalin 21.8.2 Recommended (WHQL), not the one above it, the optional one. Or, you can download the Auto-Detect file, run it and it will look and tell you which one to update and do it for you.

Also, it's recommended that you update the chipset from HERE . Click on the Win 10 64bit, download the file and then run it.

@Reyfox Awesome, I'll give both those a try. Where can I find and download the Auto-Detect file?

I gave you a link to drivers specific to your system above.

Click Windows 10. Auto detect is there too.

All right, I updated the chipset. Could you potentially give me a direct link to download Adrenalin 21.8.2 Recommended (WHQL)? I can't seem to find it. I apologize for all the questions, I'm not familiar with AMD and don't want to potentially mess things up further.

Same link as above:

If you are really not sure which one you want- you can use auto-detect and install. Otherwise click on your operating system (Windows 10 or 11) and then Adrenalin 21.10.2 Recommended (WHQL). Since you originally posted this thread, a driver update came out.
