I saw that with 19 you can adjust the fisheye of videos from GoPro. However I do not see this and the help in Vegas Pro 19 is for version 18 which is weird. Anyone have some ideas on this?
Your initial question had to do with fisheye removal for GoPro footage. A number of tools in HappyOtterScripts can already do this. In the next build (due out in a week or so), I've added this option to the ImportAssist tool which, among other things, enables you to remove fisheye "before" adding to the timeline. Here's a short demo of some GoPro footage. I added the original footage to the timeline only to demonstrate the effect of the removal.
Thank you. That video was very informative. I did not realize that HOS worked within Vegas. This is interesting. Also I think this to adjust GoPro maybe better than what is in Effects. So looks like I will be getting this. It does look like a steep learning curve however.
Back to your initial inquiry and one of your responses.
Why doesn't the core Lense Correction FX of Vegas Pro fit your needs to correct the GoPro wide angle distortion? This FX is made right for this case and there are several GoPro presets available.
In the VEGAS Lens Correction VFX, click on the twistee at Lens Model, then at the Found Lenses field click on Select Lens - dozens upon dozens of choices will be revealed.
You can find raw lens correction data here. I doesn't look like anyone characterized the newer GoPros. It is possible to do it yourself. https://wilson.bronger.org/calibration
Interesting. Voukoder will create a 5.1 surround sound 4K video. Seems only AVC. However, it does not play properly when channeled through a Roku Ultra. The rear speakers and LFE are not activated and their sound comes from the front two speakers. The file does play properly when channeled through the LG TV. Using PowerDirector to create the same file, it works fine through Roku. Weird.
Of interest is the use of the chart at the beginning of the video for doing calibration work. It's best used if you can mount your GoPro on a tripod where you can precisely control its position. As I recall, I created the image, printed it on 8.5 x 14 paper and taped it to the wall. Although somewhat of a kluge, it works pretty well for precise estimates of lens distortion.
As a wrap up I would like to thank all of you for your insights and efforts :). For right now I am going to stick with the Vegas 19 / Voukoder combo. Vegas for color grading, HDR, and tweak to GoPro Fisheye, although it is not spot on yet. Voukoder for surround sound. I did learn how to get Voukoder to do HEVC. I was psyched up that Voukoder might do HDR and surround. What a trip that would be. But Voukoder does not show up as a template for rendering :(.
