Vegas Crashing despite efforts to stop crashing.

Hello everyone. This is my first post so bear with me.

Prior to this point, Vegas Pro has been running fine. No errors whatsoever, no crashes until this point where I have tried at least five times today to render some minute long video...it keeps crashing anywhere from 30-60% through. Sometimes it crashes while I'm editing.

Interestingly enough the entire project DOES render, I can hear the little "ding" go off while the program is frozen. It just won't allow me to do anything afterwards.

The thing is that I disabled GPU-accelerated video processing but it still shows up in the crash log. Here it is if you want to see it:

C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Local\VEGAS Pro\14.0\dx_video_grovel_x64.log

Problem Description
   Application Name:    VEGAS Pro
   Application Version: Version 14.0 (Build 161) 64-bit

Fault Process Details
   Process Path:        C:\Program Files\VEGAS\VEGAS Pro 14.0\vegas140.exe
   Process Version:     Version 14.0 (Build 161) 64-bit
   Process Description: VEGAS Pro

I don't know what else to do here, literally every video that "saves people's lives" by solving their crash problems indicates that as the only solution. If you could help me find another solution that would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

1) Go through Nick Hope's FAQ's regarding crashing. 2) Update to latest build of v14.

Could you be so kind as to send me a link to the FAQ?

Update to build 270.

If it still crashes, follow this guide, which is a bit more targeted to crashing/hanging during rendering: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-can-i-stop-vegas-pro-hanging-or-crashing-during-rendering--104786/

Hello,
I am back after awhile to tell you that the crash is caused by a recent computer update and now it is not happening during rendering, but only during project work. After a few days it repaired itself last time, this time I hope the same thing happens.

With all of this being said, I restarted my computer and crashing while editing and rendering is no longer a problem.

@bagofchips: We really shouldn’t be spending so much of our time fossicking and fiddling about with VegasPro. We should be spending our time on the Creative process. Whilst it is “interesting” and to problem solve, this is not the purpose of a film maker and content creator. If I could get a fully parallel functioning iOS version of VegasPro I’d switch. Speaking with one Apple user, and my 16 month use of this iPad Air2, the system and the application just work.

My particular bane, is the “Crash on Exit”. I’ve reported this multiple times to Magix although they are understanding and can only suggest that as this is not a typical experience for them nor Users, then it follows it is one that is local to my setup. End of.

I’ve applied much of Nick’s suggestions, where it is relevant to my s/w and H/w, but have gotten to the point where I’m not sure if I’m not making it worse. I just don’t know.

BTW, I love your handle 😍 “bagofchips”!

Last time I saw those types of errors, my system had memory error on one of the DIMMs. Replacing it the module massive stabilized Vegas operation.

The other time, I had a component that was competing for PCIe x16 lanes. This caused the GPU to switch to x8, which I believe was more of a sharing of x16. This mode of operation made vegas operations that required the GPU really unstable. Disabling the onboard device and getting the GPU operating an unfettered x16 speed, also stabilized vegas operation.

Sometime source media type can cause issues as well.

Neither source media, workflow out to render, nor system spec information is offered. It's really a shot in the dark as to what the problem could be.

The OP could have a real cheap POS PC that is undersized for the job, and screen capturing from OBS. Then complaining about stability.
