Vegas + ffdshow issue

Hi,

I would appreciate help to understand a situation about ffdshow and Vegas Pro 11.

To other purpose than to edit or render in Vegas, I had to install ffdshow (http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net/). So, I won't use ffdshow in any Vegas context, but I need to have it installed in my computer. In this not-using-together case, could ffdshow cause any problem to Vegas just because it is installed in my computer?

Considering a plenty of problems people are relating about Vegas 11, I would like to assure doing it I won't cause more problem yet!

Thanks in advance,
Cadu

As far as I know, it's never caused me an issue with VP8 or VP10. I have Haali splitter and ffdshow installed, but it's set to decode very little. Just H.264/AVC I think at the moment. I've never seen the ffdshow icons (bottom right of the screen) kick in when Vegas is playing something. That would that ffdshow is being used. I guess if that happened then there might be an issue.

Just to add a little to Nick's post. I also have ffdshow & Haali Splitter installed, and have seen no problems I can attribute to these guys in my Vegas 11 64bit installation.

Hi,

Thanks everybody for answering. I am new in video editing and I would appreciate additional information from you:

a) I am using ffdshow to record screen through Camtasia Recorder in AVI format using H.264. After recording in Camtasia, I tried open the AVI/H.264 in Vegas and "an error occurred while opening a codec". Do you know if there is any codec/configuration with ffdshow that could be open by Vegas properly?

b) And both of you mentioned "Haali Splitter". I don't know that. In which way it could be useful?

Best,
Cadu

I haven't used Camtasia, but try to record H.264 in an MPEG-4 (.mp4) container, where it is more usually found. If you can't do that then maybe .wmv would be your next best choice.

I have Haali Splitter installed in conjunction with ffdshow so that I can play certain files such as AVC/AAC in Windows Media Player and Media Player Classic with both video and audio. Without Haali Splitter I don't get audio in those programs (in fact it's possible I don't get video either. I can't remember).

Would the Haali Splitter enable XDCAM EX files (in MP4 wrappers), to play in Windows Media Player? And if not, what would?
