In the send error report dialog there is a large text edit field for you to enter any comments you want. As I remember the send error report dialog asks, what were you doing at the time of the error.

I've been lurking off and on hoping to hear some good news about the upcoming VP13. PPro CS6 is getting a little long in the tooth now and I'm not keen on Creative Cloud so I'm looking for options again.

Seems there are programmers now interacting on the forums and ChrisDolan (SCS) responded with promising news about Vegas Pro 13 which I hope will pan out to be true with the emphasis on stability and performance over fluff features.

As a multimedia journalist, I"m responsible for doing it all and that includes post production for my clients and having to wrangle audio and such outside of PPro has gotten to become a Pain when I'm under short deadlines. I'm hopeful things are on the upswing for Vegas as the tool in concept is what I REALLY want to use, but it's lack of stability let me down too many times in the past.

@cliff - i know exactly where you're coming from, though i didn't go over to ppro cs6 for among other reasons those you state re sound.

i have found 12 'relatively' stable, (even if i do have to use workarounds to render!) so i'm a little hesitant about diving in on 13, however, if i read here that scs HAS sorted out gpu and other bones of contention, then i can see myself going against my better judgement and buying it off the rank.

i was working with a client looking over my shoulder the other day, something that hasn't happened in YEARS, but he was visiting relatives in the area and said he'd like to see me and sit in for a change - we've been working together for over 20 years, though i usually only handle his lower end stuff (trainers, promo's and the like - his usual clients are high end tvc and heavy duty corporate so he needs local sydney post houses and the like...) anyway, he was absolutely gobsmacked by how, and the speed at which i did his bidding - in truth it wasn't anything unusual; basic edit from hdv, throw in the usual suspects,eg, jpgs, audio, mp3, few legacy graphics, etc.,

he said what we did in a couple of hours would have taken him at least half a day in either of the two post houses he usually uses (one avid, the other fcp). and he does know what he's looking at and talking about.

so yes cliff, i think there's a great many of us waiting for 13 to hopefully relaunch our love affair with editing and not sit in trepidation of either whiteouts, freezes, etc., ;-)

I will be very irritated by a company position to sell an upgrade that is a essentially a stability fix! Vegas has been relatively stable for me but there are the persistent known bugs and it's GPU finiciness that require workarounds that are simply annoying. I don't want to have to pay to have the bugs fixed. Simple. I have a DAW software (Ableton) where the stability got out of control and the company took time to fix the buggy version delaying the release of the New version so that it could provide the existing user base with a stable release. That is an earnest approach to business. I don't want to have to buy a new release that contains consumer level "new features" and no utility upgrade just to get a bug fix. I think SCS misses the point if they think the user base is wants the bug fixes only available in a new release. NO. we want the current version fixed first. Then go and provide new features that we can decide on whether we want to upgrade. But I guess that goes against marketing strategy........

Was anybody listening when I said two weeks ago that VegasPro Version 12 build 770B = Pro13 ?????
Some of the Sony staff have so said as we enter NAB.

dancerchris, in my idealistic world, I agree with you. However, at this point in my realistic world, even if I had to pay for a new version in order to have a stable version, I'll do it.

I have wasted so much time dealing with crashes, and time is money.

promising news about Vegas Pro 13 which I hope will pan out to be true with the emphasis on stability and performance over fluff features

There will be plenty of new features, and each of us will have an opinion on what is fluff or not. Many/most of new features were probably spec'd at the time of release of 12. Vegas is a very mature app, with a pretty streamlined UI, and given the old 80/20 rule most new features are fluffy to everyday most common tasks.

Chris actually mentioned they don't hold back bug fixes for new versions.

It does seem that SCS as put some extra effort towards stability in the past 6-9 months. No single release, be it an update to 12 or a new version 13 will solve stability. Technically "everything" will never be solved. So long as there is an emphasis things will get better. As to how fast that is, then place your bets.

When are we going to see some fixes and new features for DVD Arch Pro? Somebody recently bought TMPGEnc Authoring Works to get around a long standing bug that shows up on some but not all BD players.

Norman and Chris

I don't know. Never implied I did. Are you "placing a bet" as to when? Sounds like your bet is never.

Facts are that some "bugs" never get fixed. There may be things higher on the list to do. Including fluff features. Maybe a fix is kinda dangerous and might break other things. I could speculate further but...

Has that bug been acknowledged by SCS in any way? Typically through a support report.

Of course contacting SCS support is pain in the extreme, but it is about the only mechanism we have. Most just b***h online. Maybe that is why a couple of SCS types showed up in the forum in the past number of months. Maybe their presence is just window dressing. Time will tell.

I know all about useless SCS support and have stated such previously in this forum. They seem ill suited to handle and reproduce, bug reports. Even when you give them a VEG, they tend to ignore it. I have banged my head against that wall for over a year on a couple of open support issues. Things I considered bugs. One item I even uploaded a 900MB veg and sample files for them to reproduce on their machine (this instance was a hang during playback, GPU on).

Chris stated they do not hold back bugs for new releases.
Well the font problem in Titles and text has not been fixed and has been acknowledged for over a year. It may or may not be fixed in 13, we shall see. I have other acknowledged reports for 12 that has not been be fixed in an update.

I have a few other reproducible bug reports in Vegas open and never responded to by SCS in a couple of months. All with VEG files to reproduce. The fact that 13 is close can explain the lack of recent work on 12. We shall see if Chris is true to his words.

Will 12 have another maintenance build release?

Of course 12 will not get maintenance updates forever, but I think we deserve at least one more once the 13 dust settles, and nothing is ever perfect (did I just hear an echo?)
PeterDuke wrote on 4/2/2014, 9:12 PM
Sorry Norman, I mistook you for someone from SCS.

I tried reporting the bug through the Australian agent, but was told that they could not reproduce it and therefore could do nothing. I understand other people have reported it. Other people have certainly complained about it; two just recently.
NormanPCN wrote on 4/3/2014, 10:35 AM
Sorry Norman, I mistook you for someone from SCS.

No worries. I fully understand the problems or intermittent issues. I would only report directly to SCS via this site. Who know what the relationship, or competence of some agent is regarding bugs. For how do I type things you may be fine.

The one I have banged my head against the SCS support wall, for a year, is just such an intermittent hang issue. As a developer I know how difficult those can be to reproduce in house. That is why I made available a large download to reproduce. They never bothered to look at the file. This has only ever happened in one slideshow project I did some time ago so this bug is not so much an issue, and GPU off things worked fine.

This is not intermittent, it is quite reproduceable. It is just that it shows up on some brands/models of BD players and not others.

SnappyTV: same here, Sorry | Due to rights restriction, you cannot view this video.

I think livestream should be available...., because the still frame of notice is already shown.

The other 4K 'surprising' rumour will be new Sony A7s too as heard by Sonyalpharumors and eoshd.com
Basically it is A7 or A7r with 4K capability.

Sony probably wants to showcase complete 4K range of all class this year, from top-end F5/F55 to small consumer FDR-AX100 and possible new A7s plus Sony Alpha99 with 4K capability....

Kind of strange.

It appears that Blackmagic Design are going to ramp up the edit functionality in DaVinci Resolve, according to a large banner outside the NAB halls. And it will be free, or so it says, in Resolve 11.

I am guessing that this means that Resolve 11 will have a Lite version, same as previous versions, that has the upgraded edit functionality, and is free to download.

This is probably being done to keep users inside Resolve, rather than have them round trip to FCPX or other NLEs.

It will be interesting to learn more, and if the current plug-in providers are given access to it, then it could put the cat among the pigeons.

That's a great post JohnyRoy!

Two things that I am interested in:

- Project Archiving

- EBU R128/CALM Act compliant loudness meters

Hope it is different than the meter in Sound Forge though. A meter with a history line like the Nugen Vislm is much more useful to me.

Yeah, at first I was super-excited with 4K recording, but it's a shame it only features 4K HDMI OUTPUT only!
But, on the other feature: Black Level, Timecode - These are Pro-class camcorders feature...
And most importantly: S-LOG2 Gamma feature - This was PMW-F3's best feature!**(so far I know)

XAVC-s for greater bitrate of 50Mbps. - Looks like a complement for those who complained very low bitrate 28Mbps limitation of AVCHD.

I guess Sony likes to stick to Sony standards.

Any plain old MP4 or MOV file can have AVC video with any bitrate you desire to support. Canon and Nikon have been doing this since they added video to their DSLRs.
