Tried the MainConcept option (as opposed to Sony) same black result. The only other format apart from .m2ts that "works" is .avi (horrible motion blur and zigzagging vertical edges).
I rendered some 50i HDV here in VP13 build 453 to the same "Blu-ray 1920x1080-50i, 10 Mbps video stream (*)" template and the result is fine.
Which build of VP13 are you using?
Is GPU acceleration of video processing (in your video options) ON or OFF? If it's ON, try with it OFF.
Does the source video on the timeline play normally?
If you still have the tape, you could try recapturing with HDVSplit. It shouldn't make a difference if the timeline plays normally, but I'm running out of ideas.
Tried with GPU acceleration off. Same result. Have the same build 453. The source video plays normally.
I tried re-importing the "black" .avc file into Vegas and it reads it without any problems. Could it be an issue with VLC?
Ah. They are not playing for me in VLC either. That's surprising. Maybe it can't support .avc video streams that are not wrapped in a container. They will play in Vegas, MPC-HC, Windows Media Player etc..
Interesting, none of my Blu-ray Sony avc files will play in VLC. I never realised as normally I use MPC-HC or WMP. So it does appear VLC cannot play them as Nick suggests.
In WMP 12.0.10011.16384 in Windows 10 version 1511 I right-click the AVC file and choose "Open with..." to access WMP. Then I get the prompt below. Then when I click "Yes" it plays.
