Vegas Pro 14 MP3 Audio issues

kcfonman wrote on 9/25/2016, 6:26 PM

I can not play any of my audio file in MP3 format.  Works great with VP13.  I notice that when I ask for the properties of the file in VP14 it say 44,100Hz Stero MPEG.  In VP13 it shows 256Kbps, 44,100Hz MPEG Layer-3.  VP 14 will not show the peaks and if you play the file it is nothing but digital noise.  Since it doesn't know that it is 256Kbps, it is decoding it wrong.  What is it going to take to fix this or should I request a refund?  I just upgraded 4 days ago

VP13 had no issues

System is win10 on i7 with Nvidia GTX1080 64Bit

I'm on Win10(64) same. Just made a 256K/44k1/stereo MP3 in V13 and it plays just fine in V14(161). Presumably there is something in the V14 MP3 playing side of things that doesn't play nicely with that spec MP3 originating for the encoder yours came from. How does a source MP3 made from V13 play in V14 ?  Do you know what encoding app was used (may help in getting problem fixed) ?

Are you seriously suggesting throwing your toys out of the cot and seeking a refund because of a bug in something like a fraction of a % of the functionality of the app, even before they have a chance to identify and fix it ?

My problem is all my audio are created on my Marantz digital audio recorder and from my Yamaha board are not readble in V14.  I am still able to read them in V13 and SoundForge.  One of the things I'm worried about VP14 inablility to tell that the file is 256Kbps 41,100Hz encoding.  It only sees 41,100Hz.  I can't use VP14 to do my work.

Can you attach small MP3 samples (one from Marantz, and other from Yamaha board) so other VP14 users can try experiment with it? (or perhaps Developers can also look after your sample MP3)

Yes, I would be curious to look at these files as well. As has been mentioned many times on this forum, there is not a good solid standard for MP3 formats. It could be something like a header problem, or incorrect reporting of the bitrate within the file itself.

"It only sees 41,000" ? When you right-click the track, select 'Properties" and go to the 'Media' tab ? If that doesn't give the full MP3 spec at the bottom, or if it doesn't dispaly in Project Media in the appropriate column, then there likely is a problem with V14 wrt Marantz MP3s. In which case it probably is a bug and if you want it fixed then I suggest you report it the usual way. Unless you object so strongly to the concept of users reporting problems ....

I already have opened a case.  Waiting to see what they say or want.  I think a driver didn't load correctly or some other issue with the software install.  I had no errors or popup's during the installation.   I have tried some of my MP3 music from multiple soruces (comercial, pulbic and from soundforge) that are having the same issues

VEGAS_EricD wrote on 9/27/2016, 5:50 PM

Have you tried navigating to the folder the audio is located in and deleting the .sfk files inside the folder?  The .sfk files will repopulate after you open Vegas and add the same audio file to the timeline.

kcfonman wrote on 9/27/2016, 6:24 PM

Tried that doesn't make a difference.  How long does it take for the support teams to look at my case?  This is impacting all of my MP3 files.

VEGAS_EricD wrote on 9/27/2016, 6:44 PM

I am on the Madison office Vegas support team - and we are already looking at it.  I recommend attaching one of the mp3 files you are experiencing this issue with to your support ticket so we can reproduce the issue and look into this further for you.

mbarton wrote on 9/27/2016, 6:55 PM

I see on the Internal tab when you shift click Option/Preferences and type in mp3 in the filter box...You can force Vegas to scan the entire file MP3 file to determine sample count  (Default value is false).  Depending on what you hear from support, you could give this a try, restart Vegas and see if it makes a difference.  If not, then set it back to the default value and see what the Magix support team says.

kcfonman wrote on 9/27/2016, 7:26 PM

I think I found out why I am having the issues.  VP14 created a new plugin folder under C:\program files\Vegas\Begas pro 14.0\FileIO Plug-ins\  MCPLU2.dll is the plug in for MP3.  VP13, Sound Forge Pro 11 and Acid 7.0 all use plugins from D:\prgrams files\fileio Plug-ins.  VP13 uses mp3plug.dll for MP3 files.  Some how MP3 with VP14 is trying to use the MainConcept MPEG-1 MCPLU2 codec.  Here are the File property from the media explorer.

ALso, thank you everyone for you sugestions and help.

Is your M drive a mapped file location drive?  If so, try copying the file to the system drive, then import it from there.

Also, try unchecking "ignore fact chunk when opening compressed wave files" in options > preferences > general.

VP14 is not decoding the file correlctly.  It thinks that all MP3's should be opeine with a MPEG1 codec, not MP3

kcfonman wrote on 10/3/2016, 4:14 PM

Unchecking the "ignore fact chunk when opening compressed wave files" didn't help.  The M: drive has nothing to do with it.  This is happening on all my MP3 file local or remote.

When is someone from support going to contact me about my case??? Ticket 2016092717000882.

What version of Windows 10 are you running? (search for "about your PC"). There is a related case at https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/vp14-problems-recognizing-importing-youtube-legit-mp3-downloads--103938/ where we speculate that this problem might be related to the Windows 10 Anniversary update (version 1607).

AVsupport wrote on 10/4/2016, 3:57 AM

[My not-working example: microchip.mp3 from youtube audio public library, amongst others]

I would say certain MP3 files are perhaps wrongly identified ("MainConcept MPEG-1") by VP14 to trigger the use of the wrong codec ("mcplug2.dll").

Explorer properties are fine ("Type of file: MP3").

VLC media information reveals Codec: MPEG Audio layer 1/2 (mpga), stereo, 44.1kHz, @ 320kb/s, and strictly speaking MP3 is an audio subset of MPEG1 (audio layer III)

Maybe there's some subtleties in the file header metadata that confuses the handover from the OS to the app? Maybe the (inproper) use of ID3 tags for DRM/copyright protection? Would be nice if that could be resolved rather swiftly....

MP3 actually is MPEG-1 Layer 3.

That file "microchip.mp3" works fine here both in VP13 and VP14. But in both versions it is decoded by mp3plug2.dll here on my system.

AVsupport wrote on 10/4/2016, 6:36 AM

yes unfortunately on my system it triggers the use of  ("mcplug2.dll") as mentioned above, resulting in absolute gobbledegook. VP14. @Marco, what Win version are you using?

AVsupport, in your Vegas Pro 14 program folder, subfolder "FileIO Plug-Ins", is there another subfolder "mp3plug2" available and in there a file "mp3plug2.dll"?

I use Windows 10 Home, version 1511, build 10586.589.

AVsupport wrote on 10/4/2016, 7:02 AM

[Win10Home/V1607/build 14393.82] 64bit..V1607 is annuversary edition...

will check the folder tomorrow thanks!

However, prior to checking, I would have thought the system would scream 'no codec' or 'cannot read file' if the codec wasn't there, which makes me think there's an issue looking AT the file...easy check: rename your codec to: 'mp3plug2.old' and see what happens! (-> file should not play/open)

My version is Windows Pro 10 build 1067 build 14393.222.  Since you mentioned the 1067 issue.  I maybe able to shed some light on the install.  I have looked at the logs and notcied that VP14 was loaded at 20:00 hours on the 9/25.  A reboot was not needed.  I had to do an update to iZotope RX5 and install Neutrino, it needed a reboot.  Looking at the log, the machine also did an "Feature upgrade to Windows 10, version 1067" during the reboot.  This reboot happened at 23:05.  I don't know if that helps
