6700HQ Geforce GTX970M 16G 128GB SSD + 1TB WIN 10

Recently upgraded to Vegas Pro 14, haven't been able to use SAVE AS. It worked for a day and half or so. Opened several old files, made some changes, saved. Made a new test file, it saved as, reopened, etc. Opened another old file, made some changes, wouldn't save. Lost. Uninstalled, reinstalled, worked for a day a half, then same problems. Now won't Save As at all. About to tear my hair out! Please help!

Where are you attempting to save the new version of the project?

Is your 1TB disk inside your system or USB attached?

In the interest of narrowing down the problem, can you start a new project in VP14, then save it, then close it, reopen it and do a "save as" ?

Some external usb drives go to sleep to save battery charge on the pc. A first attempt to access the drive sometimes results in an error but usually wakes them up. A second attempt may than work. If I suspect this is a problem I open Microsoft File Explorer and wait until the external drive is displayed properly - then attempt to save a project.

Saving on the C:Drive in Documents. I have a 4T external hard drive I backup on. It will save on the the second try sometimes. Or save as if I change the name. But after a few times won't save as or save no matter what I do.

Are you saying?

1. Vegas Pro 14 is installed on C drive

2. Your media is on C drive.

3. You are saving to C drive documents folder.

4. Sometimes you can do a save as on the second try or if you change the name but other times you cannot save or save as no matter what you do.

Your C drive is only 128 GB, maybe there is not enough space left
For example if your page file or temp is working

Sorry for the length but I'm going to try to be as detailed as possible. I have a laptop with i7 core,6700HQ Geforce GTX970M 16G gpu, and 128GB SSD. I have 45gb free space. I have been saving directly to c drive.

I have narrowed the problem down a little. I went directly to the file source while the software is open and discovered that when I save my file it switches the format from veg. to veg.tmp., which I am assuming is a temporary file that is automatically deleting itself. I have found some sources that say to delete the tmp. but for one, it only works sometimes without deleting my file and two, this software is too expensive to have to do that every time I need to save.

This is a list of some of the things I have tried.

1. uninstalling and reinstalling

2. installing Vegas Pro 14 from support section on official website.

3. Designated a folder for prerendered audio editor.

4. Designated a folder for prerendered files folder.

The software seems to decided to save it randomly. I cant find a pattern at all to it which means I cant be sure I wont lose my work, even deleting the veg.tmp. format back to veg. wont guarantee a save. I have seen another source that has stated that the software Audacity will cause a fill cannot be created error but I dont have that software installed. It also doesn't matter if I save it as "save as" or just "save". It will save the file at first, usually, and then randomly give me an error of "file could not be created". Any help is highly appreciated. Thanks

What sort of file and folder names are you using? Maybe simplifying/shortening them.

If your 128gb drive has only 45gb free it is vastly overloaded. Move all your content to the ext drive. Create a "render" folder there too and save to that folder. Also move any sample libraries to the ext drive.

I never let a boot drive get beyond 50% full. Windows becomes unreliable, like it is choking…
