Vegas Pro 15 - Track motion automatically resizing itself.

Hello everybody, this is my first time posting on this forum. Not that that matters, I'm just starting off with a friendly hello.

To get to my problem, now. I have just today purchased Vegas Pro 15 Suite. I have used Vegas back when it was owned by Sony and so I have experience editing with this software. However, I have ran into a problem that I have never run into before and I can not find a single forum post or video on how to fix this problem.

I am trying to edit an Omegle video for YouTube. This means I have 3 video tracks, one is the template/background, one is a video of me on Omegle and the other is the video of the stranger on Omegle. To fit the video of me and the other video of the stranger into the squares on the template/background, I have to use the Event Pan/Crop to mask out the unwanted section of the screen, which is easy to do and causes no problems. However, in order make it fit into the squares on the template/background, I have to use the Track Motion feature. I can size the videos down and get them to fit into the squares without a problem, but the problem arises when I use the Trim Start button or if I split the footage and then delete the unwanted footage. What will happen is when I use Trim Start or delete unwanted footage, the Track Motion will reset back to the default setting, causing my video footage to revert back to default size. I am puzzled and have absolutely no idea how to fix this. I plan on phoning MAGIX about this problem to hopefully find a solution if I can't find one here. Before the hassle of phoning though, I would be very grateful if somebody on this forum knows how to fix this issue!

Have you checked for unwanted keyframes in Track Motion?

Jaton wrote on 12/7/2017, 5:54 PM

That was my first initial thought. Upon looking though, I discovered there were no key frames. I restarted Vegas Pro 15 many times, I started a new project many times and made sure there were no key frames, so unfortunately that isn't the issue.

The first picture is the before shot, when I have everything sized correctly in the Track Motion feature. The second picture is the after shot, when I Trim Start or delete the first bit of split footage, it resets the Track Motion back to default size. As you can see, the video behind it is normal size, because I hadn't used Trim Start on that track. It only affects the video when you trim start on that video layer. Please, somebody help.

If you will notice, when you set Track Motion, there is a Keyframe at the beginning of the track. When you delete a video from the beginning, you also delete the Keyframe setting it back to default. I would save your position as a Preset and then recall it each time it gets reset.

I just did a little test, even dragging the key frame forward it still resets back to default, even if it is before where the key frame is. I have set the positions as a default, even before I made this post. I just wanted to avoid the headache of having to reset it each time. Oh well, if nothing can be done then I guess that sucks. Thanks for the suggestions anyway people 🙂

david-tu can type faster than I can make these little Oscar nominated episodes.

Hahaha, that Oscar joke amused me. Anyway, thank you for the video John. I do already have presets set, I just wanted to avoid the headache of it. Also, me being OCD, I wanted to figure out the explanation for the resetting, as my older versions of Vegas never did that. Seeing it do exactly the same on your screen showed me it is just how the new software works. Thanks for all the contributions.

If you can set the keyframe before the event that you're cutting, it will maintain it's location. I sometimes do that on tracks where I do animated graphics but the graphics are in different locations.

Holy hell, that actually worked. I have no idea how, but it did! Thanks John! You're a lifesaver!
