How was it recorded?

Just about everything I know regarding smooth playback is covered in that post, so I don't really have further suggestions. But...

  • Don't miss trying tip #14 (disable so4compoundplug).
  • Experiment with some different settings for GPU acceleration of video processing in your video preferences.
WackyVids wrote on 12/20/2018, 10:33 AM

So how I record is like this:

First I have a xbox on x (that does 1080p 60 fps) from there goes a hdmi cable to my computer and in my computer I have a Elgato Game Capture HD 60 Pro (PCIe) (with that I record my gameplay videos) then from my Elgato Game Capture HD 60 Pro (PCIe) there is another hdmi cable that goes to my LCD monitor (BenQ Zowie RL2455)

WackyVids wrote on 12/20/2018, 10:38 AM

Also I have disable so4compoundplug it didn't change anything the video is still lagging

WackyVids wrote on 12/20/2018, 10:40 AM

Do I need to download a pluggin or codec that would help me fix this problem?

As disabling so4compoundplug did not help then re-enable it; it is under constant improvement with each release. Then try installing the new VEGAS Pro 16 Update 3 (build 352).

There is not a plugin or codec that will fix your playback issue by itself. As described in that smooth playback post, you may have to use proxies, or record an easier format, or transcode your footage to an easier format, or ultimately upgrade your hardware.

You could have a play with the ImportAssist script in HappyOtterScripts. It will enable you to batch-rewrap or transcode your footage on import, resulting in files that Vegas may be happier playing with zero or minimal loss of quality. If a simple re-wrap to mp4 doesn't work, try transcoding to x264 with a crf value around 18-23.

So I have found my problem It seen that the Vegas Pro 16 preview screen can't take on videos that are recorded at 60fps. If I make a video that is 30fps there is no problem it plays really smooth but if I play the 60fps video it lags really bad. But I need 60fps in my videos to make it worth watching

j-v wrote on 12/22/2018, 11:06 AM

Like I told and showed you before on the Dutch Vegas Forum, Vegas 15 and 16 have no problem playing that kind of files real time in Preview/Full without extra DRAM usage set in the default Vegas amount.
No need to make the framerate of your footage lower than you are saying you need. If everything on your hardware is uptodate the only reason could be your maybe too weak GTX Titan, from which I don't know any specification.
Also possible reason is your way of capturing is making files that can not realtime being played on a Vegas timeline. In that case you have to look for another program that can do this.
See below (again) my footage, that has higher dimensions (2,7K) played in Vegas 16, but it is the same in Vegas 15.

I have the same problem here.
In my case:
- My vegas just preview smoothly when preview mode is "Auto" >> the dimension just 480x200x128.
But when I try to preview (half or above) the preview will lag, the frame of video going slow down. Even I try to pre-render it by (Shift+M) >> It's still lagging when I play that section.
The file in the timeline is just an Mp4 normally (23.976fps)

I was tested with Vegas 15, and everything is going well. play very smoothly at Preview "Half"

SO i think the new update for Vegas 16 has some problem here.
Please check that, it's very uncomfortable when editing with preview just 480x200 pixel.

"480x200x128"

Do you really need 32 bit / channel video? I doubt.

Please check your pixelformat in project properties.

Yeah, I know, I don't really need that option when editing (we can set it to 32 bit again until we render) but I tested in Vegas 15 and everything is okay. So Vegas pro 16 may have some problems that we don't know

@WackyVids

You can kindly upload an original video file for us to review. Preferably a very short one with only a few seconds. About 30 seconds is enough.

NickHope wrote on 12/24/2018, 2:34 AM

@WackyVids And please upload that sample to a cloud service (e.g. Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, mega.nz, wetransfer.com or mediafire.com), not using the button, which will recompress it.

WackyVids wrote on 12/28/2018, 10:05 AM

So I have uploaded a 30 second video on my OneDrive and made a link (hope it works)

I also disabling so4compoundplug again

I have made some videos with OBS (Open Broadcaster Software)

Recorded videos with the following formats : MP4( MPEG-4),TS (Telesync),Mov (MPEG-4)(QuickTime)

Also used these Encoders : x264 en nvench. H.264

so I had a total of 6 type of videos and all of them weren't good still I experience the lag in the preview screen

j-v wrote on 12/28/2018, 10:50 AM

No problem here on laptop to play that file fullscreen without visably lags also not on full screen in staed of preview screen.
The only thing I cannot get is that you live in a PAL-country and use a NTSC framerate like I told you on the Dutch Vegas Forum but this may never be a problem. Something must be wrong on your computer concerning amount of memory, used RAM or amount/place for virtual memory.

This sample plays smoothly for me also at a steady 59.94fps at Best (full) preview quality. I have GPU acceleration of video processing OFF and so4compoundplug is enabled. My CPU is a Intel i7-5960X overclocked to 4.3GHz.

Not sure what to suggest if you've already tried everything on the smooth playback post. It's a strange case. Do you have some other process going on on the computer that might be using a lot of CPU?

WackyVids wrote on 1/4/2019, 4:48 PM

I've looked in the task management and run the Vegas Pro program and also played a video clip and it only used 22% from my CPU and I got a Intel i7-7700 @ 3.60GHz

I tried it with the Best (full) preview with the GPU acceleration of video processing ON and got 48fps.

Then with Best (Auto) preview with the GPU acceleration of video processing ON and got 59.94fps

Then with Best (full) preview with the GPU acceleration of video processing OFF and got 59.94fps

I have a RX580 graphics card and and old PC that I built with an i7 950 @ 3.07GHz.

Why would it be faster with the GPU acceleration of video processing OFF?

So it seem like the problem for me is not the Vegas Pro program but it is the computer itself.

Than the big question is what is that problem because I have no idea😅

NickHope wrote on 1/6/2019, 11:20 PM

Try unchecking "Enable QSV Encoding and Decoding (where available)" in Options > Preferences > General then restart Vegas. Please let us know if that has an effect.
