Vegas Pro 16 crashes when closing.

Windows 10, Build 1809
Vegas Pro 16, Build 361

CPU 6700HQ
GPU Intel HD 530
GPU Nvidia GTX 960M

So i just installed yesterday Windows 10. A complete fresh, bloatfree, adfree and very very clean installation.
So far so good, everything works. Now here is my Problem with VP16:

  • I can work with it. Open a Project, close one. Open a new one, edit something, close it. Nothing happens. CPU Only.
  • Now when i chose my Build in GPU Intel HD 530 of my Notebook, again everything works normally. Open a Project, close one. Open a new one, edit something, close it. Nothing happens.
  • If i change the GPU Preview Acceleration to GTX 960M, slightly different things happen: Open a Project, close one. Open a new one, edit something, BUT when i close it, it crashes.

This is the Error i get:

So far its obvious that something is faulty with the NVidia GPU enabled, but i cant say what is really the problem here.

What have i done to work arround it:

  • Resetted VP16 multiple times (CTRL+Shift at startup). Did not help.
  • Uninstalled VP16 with CCleaner and deleted visable folders on my storage of magix, and reinstalled. Did not help.
  • Uninstalled the Nvidia drivers with Display Driver Uninstaller to clean up everything with NVidia. And reinstalled them again very clean on this very new OS. Did not help.

Vegas does not crash if i just open it, do nothing with the timelines and just close it again. But crashes again on closing, if i even put a simple Text or even a solid color in the timeline and close it.

Seems a bit strange of a problem. But i have no clue how i fix this annoying behavior.

@eikira You have a laptop right? Maybe it is due to aggressive power saving settings (typical for laptops to save battery power) that some HW component is sleeping when closing. You may want to force a new power plan in windows: go to control panel> hardware and sound> power options > high performance.

Next check in the advanced settings your components, e.g. hard disk (20 minutes), sleep after (never), etc...

It could also be that some software component or plugin is still busy updating or "phoning home" for a license check when closing. Just opening Vegas briefly and closing is maybe asking for trouble. Do you have enough memory? It maybe busy swapping.

Will Check that out later. I dont think that is very likely, but a probability of causing issues.

I think high performance does disable that anyway. But thanks for the suggestion.

The chances of that being the problem is nearly zero. Because it clearly happens, no matter how fast i open and close, only with the GTX 960M GPU enabled and only if i edit anything, no matter how small the editing is. If i open it up and leave it 5 minutes open without doing nothing and closing it there is no error.

My 16GB DDR4 should not be any limit at the moment on a notebook.

As I wrote before, with me that freeze appears only with the newer NVidia drivers.
I'm able to overcome this crashing at the close of Vegas with this error in C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\nvamci.inf_amd64_5a7a47ad0f59234f\..............
by installing for Nvidia the 399,24 driverversion.
All normal and fast renderoptions stayed also with those drivers,
@eikira  maybe you can try also my solution.
And hopefully with the new coming update the developers were able to overcome these problems for newer GPU drivers in Vegas 16.😇

yeah, will check out that driver. i highly doubt, that even newer drivers will solve that issue. we are talking about pre-previous GPU Generation. i think magix does not know that just since recently, i am pretty sure they are aware of it but do not really care about old GPUs in notebooks...

Has nothing to do with the GPU, but with the installed drivers for a GPU

I think J-v means the compiled graphic API's in Vegas "talking" to the new nvidea drivers need an update to match the latest nvidea drivers. Sometimes sw is not always backwards compatible, although it was ment to be. That is the reason, from time to time you need to fall back to older nvidea drivers for a better match.

Got same problem and it annoyed me.

Thanks j-v,I followed the suggestion, installed the old version (399,24) of Nvidia GPU driver and it worked !

Open and shutdown the Vegas pro app,not crash report anymore!
