Vegas Pro 17 crashing when I drag in a movie file for editing

Hope you can help... Vegas pro 17 crashes when I drag into my timeline a mp4 or sfk video file for editing, the programme turns off instantly. However, if I drag in mp4 or sfk audio files, the vegas pro works fine for editing audio files. I have tried inserting the video files in the other ways too, and still no success. I have been using vegas pro successfully for a while and have had no problems at all, apart from recently I had an 'error 59' -- the programme wouldn't run and after looking on the internet I deactivated and activated the programme and uninstalled and re-installed it. I then found myself in the above situation. I'm not sure if the two issues are related in any way? I have checked that I have enough disk space to run the programme. My OS is windows 10.

First of all, an SFK file is not a video or audio file. It is a representation of the audio waveform that Vegas creates when opening a file.

Secondly, what kind of video is in the MP4 file? Was it working before? And, if yes, what changed from when it was working?
