Vegas Pro 17 freeze

Was editing a video project last night, about 10 minutes long to be whittled down to five and VP froze up on me. Am not sure why. Went and had a shower, came back, still frozen. Any idea how to minimize chances of future freezes? I have plenty of RAM, CPU, GPU power and SSD space, plus the footage is HD. Forum research indicates shutting off GPU acceleration, but then what is the point of getting a GPU? That is sort of why I got it in the first place.

Yes, but you need to try all possibilities in order to eliminate them. What GPU do you have and are their drivers up to date?

RX 560, 4gb edition. Yes, drivers are up to date. Latest stable.

Disable the gpu as a test. If that works, it give you more data to work with.

Try:

The recommendations in the FAQ for solutions when VP is crashing.

A driver cleaning http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html

Make sure your cache folder is clean by deleting everything in  C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Local\VEGAS Pro\<version #> (delete everything with VP closed and use task manager to make sure it's really gone from memory). The initial startup will be kind of long after this cleaning but once it's up, restart VP. Use task manager to make sure VP is completely gone from memory before starting it back up.

Try these tips too

Disable so4compoundplug.dll if videos are AVC https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/avc-xavc-s-issues-in-vp15-16-try-disabling-so4compoundplug-dll--108345/

Trim your project looking for fx combinations that cause problems.  For example, Picture in Picture and Layer Dimensionality together are lethal on my machine
