Vegas PRO 17 lagging, and using a lot of CPU (85%-99%)

tradebug wrote on 10/31/2023, 8:24 AM

So this started today, when I wanted to edit a video, my Vegas was really laggy and using a lot of CPU, although, I have a relatively good computer (AMD Ryzen 3 3200G, 16GB RAM).

This started really randomly, because the other day I was editing another video with no problem. I tried reastarting my computer, but nothing changed and I tried most of the stuff I read here and other sites.

The difference is likely the media, not VEGAS.

Can you share MediaInfo for the main types you are using: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-to-post-mediainfo-and-vegas-pro-file-properties--104561/

Your CPU has integrated RX Vega 8 with 8 cores. On the scale of computing performance, the 3200G is relatively low. You might try updating the graphics driver (the latest is 23.9.2), unless Windows did this automatically.

There was a Windows update the other day....

Also, as @RogerS, media... what are you editing.

It's 30fps 720p HEVC. Is it a screen capture? If so can you share how you did it? If there are options for GOP length/ keyframe interval try to keep it to the framerate (so 30 or 1 second worth).

Under preferences file io, did you try both the legacy and non-legacy HEVC decoder?

Do you have a GPU?

You are using an AMD APU, which has integrated, Vega graphics. I did ask about the driver for it. Your integrated GPU can encode/decode H265 8bit/10bit.

I do not know if Vegas can detect your APU, but can you make sure that in Preferences, Video and File I/O tab that it can be selected?

Yes, It's a recording of me playing a game using OBS. I didn't find settings for that.

Yes, I tried it just now, and still laggy. But oddly, the project is only lagging when I drag in like a 2 and a half hour recording and cut clips from it. Could that do something?

Yes, but It's integrated.

Yep, It detected it, I set it that, and still the same.

For OBS try AVC over HEVC and set keyint to1 instead of 0 (automatic).

Okay. I'll try for my next recording and write and update later. Thanks for the help for you and @Reyfox

@RogerS @tradebug  I didn't realize that when recording in OBS, if Keyframe Interval is set to 0, there are 250 frames in a GOP. I used VideoRedo to take a look. No wonder I couldn't edit it in Vegas as is. The same with software that came with the OBSBOT Meet 4K webcam. I could use myFFMPEG or Shutter Encoder or VideoRedo to convert it to AVC with 30 frames in a GOP, which is a major recode. I've now changed my OBS settings for recording to what RogerS has suggested.
