Vegas Pro 18 asking to update - but details reveal it's VP19

Glenn-C wrote on 10/21/2021, 6:15 AM

Everytime I open my VP18 (build 527) now, it asks to update. I click on the "update details" and all the features being "updated" are features only inherent to VP19.

What gives? I almost updated for bug fixes, which would've resulted in me being asked to purchase the VP19 upgrade. This is not cool and this update notification will not go away.

Don't click on it- appears to be a bug in the update system (not a nefarious attempt to get you to buy something)

Though I could be wrong, but wasn't the phantom update bug related to VP19? As per ...

https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/latest-upgrade-will-not-install-on-vegas-pro-19-0--132380/

I just checked the Newsfeed selection in Preferences/General, and next time opening VP18 I also got the window offering VP19 - and it clearly states that it is an offer to buy VP19.

I see, I thought it might have been a broader issue with the update system than 19.381. I uninstalled 18 so I can't check.

Yes, the Newsfeed does always give offers to upgrade at a special price and good advice on how to make that disappear if it's annoying.

I am also getting this each time I open VP 18 build 527:

When I click on "New in this update" I get:

I clicked on "Update Later" and didn't try "Perform update now".

It doesn't happen if I open VP17.

I do not have VP19 installed.

Still getting this every time I open VP18 build 527. 'Use Newsfeed to stay informed about VEGAS product updates' is not checked. So I clicked "Perform update now" in an attempt to flush it out and it tried to install VP19 build 381. I made a support request, Ticket#2021110617000461.

@NickHope I have the same version of VP18 and the same build and have not seen the "update" that you are seeing. I did have trial of VP19 installed to test, but uninstalled it after the 30 days.

@Reyfox It may be specific to my old O/S (Win 10 version 1511) or some other aspect of my system, although the OP's O/S seems to be up to date.

A "head scratcher" for sure! My Win10 OS is up to date. Also, when I open VP17, I do not see it either.

I'm still getting it. I've unchecked the thingie in preferences about Use Newsfeed, too.

@NickHope, Just remove the file named "install.cfg" from within your Vegas Pro installation folder..... Finally puts a stop to all this pop up mess!

NickHope wrote on 1/1/2022, 3:51 AM

It seems the reason I was getting the prompt is that I forgot I am using a "VEGAS Stream POST 365" license and not a VP18 perpetual license. So the prompt is valid, but (as my old OS does not support VP19) it would be nice if the prompt had a "Do not show again" checkbox.

Thank you @Steve_Rhoden. Renaming install.cfg to install.cfgRENAMED has stopped the prompt. Hopefully no expected side effects of doing that.

Steve_Rhoden wrote on 1/1/2022, 6:42 AM

@NickHope, Well there was a side effect to doing this that i also resolved. When i removed this file, whenever you tried to open a Vegas project file without having Vegas opened, there is a pop up saying that vegas cannot be installed etc. So the proper solution i did was to open the install.cfg file instead and at the very bottom there are two web addresses, just remove them, re-save and now all is perfect !
