Vegas Pro 18 capture window is blank

Alan-Barnett wrote on 7/5/2021, 8:07 PM

Hi all -

When using Magix Vegas Pro 18, if I try to do a screen capture using Vegas Capture under the File menu I just get a blank grey window. Nothing fills in it. I'm using Windows 10 with a Ryzen 3900x, 32GB memory, Nvidia GeForce video card.

I've tried turning off video optimization but that didn't help. Any ideas? Here's a screenshot of what it looks like after I start Capture:

Thanks!

Alan

Which Nvidia graphics card are you using exactly and which driver do you have installed?

The best way to get the best drivers is to use the "Help / check for driver updates" function in Vegas Pro 18.

Hi @walter-i. -

Thanks for responding! I'm using an MSI GeForce 970 4g, here's the info:

The driver is current, I updated it through Vegas. The Activate/DeActivate in the lower right always says Deactivate when I reopen this window, no matter what I set it to. So I went in the Preferences and turned off GPU acceleration.

Thanks for any suggestions!

What is that application Vegas is referring to? Nahimic? If so I'd try uninstalling that.

Alan-Barnett wrote on 7/8/2021, 12:31 AM

Hi @RogerS

It's just Vegas Capture under the File menu. It just opens to a gray screen.

RogerS wrote on 7/8/2021, 12:57 AM

The warning Vegas is referring to isn't to Capture it's to something else. See if Nahimic is under add/remove programs.

Alan-Barnett wrote on 7/8/2021, 10:21 AM

@RogerS It's not there but I saw it running as a service and stopped & disabled it and now Capture is working.

Thank you very much!

@Alan-Barnett
If you still have problems - and you are not a gamer - you should try to download the "Studio" driver, as it is better suited for video editing - say the developers.

I also have this issue. I have an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Version 462.59 running on a Dell XPS8930 with 32GB ram. I can get sound but no picture, just a grey screen. I have updated all drivers and have the latest Windows 10 update installed. Nero Video capture works fine (pic and sound), but not Vegas Capture. I do not have Nahimic installed and I am running studio of Nvidia. Ideas to try?

Thanks!
Dave

I should add that I am using a Canopus ADVC-110 for video capture.

Alan-Barnett wrote on 7/26/2021, 1:25 PM

Try stopping the Nahimic service if it is running.

Summersond wrote on 8/6/2021, 2:14 PM

Sorry for the late response! I see no services with that name when looking at running services (services.msc).

Ideas to try?

You could try to install the program as standalone by using this file C:\Program Files\VEGAS\VEGAS Pro 18.0\VEGASCapture. This is for me on laptop the only way to get Vegas Capture doing well.
Set in the settings of Control Nvidia Control Panel/3D Settings to intergrated graphics in stead of Nvidia

Well, I didn't see any settings in the NVidia Control Panel. I did play with some settings with no luck. Here is a screenshot of it. I tried opening the capture program as stand alone but that didnt work.

j-v wrote on 8/8/2021, 4:00 PM

- By Nvidia you have to choose the "Programs Settings "and scroll to or set the Capture app to another GPU than in Vegas Program
- Standalone capture you have to copy out of the Vegas map into the Windows Prgram folder and give it an own startpic on the desktop.

Note that I have added Vegas Capture to NVidia control panel and have set the GPU to none Still no picture but has sound. I am using the program standalone (note icon in lower right of screenshot). This is getting frustrating! BTW j-v, I appreciate your help on this! Version of NVidia control panel is 8.1.961.0.

This are those settings with me

It looks to me the program cannot detect another GPU with you.
Mine has as second, the Intel 630, that did not automatic showed up, but I had to change that in the BIOS and put than temp. another monitor on

I just checked and I also have the Intel 630. I will check bios but what is intriguing is that Nero sees it fine as well as the capture program in Vegas 17...

j-v wrote on 8/9/2021, 3:46 PM

......as well as the capture program in Vegas 17...

Which one of the two capture possibilities do you mean here?

No, that is the one I used in VP17 with no issues. I do not use screen capture.

@Summersond
Your problem is another one than that of the original poster @Alan-Barnett had with his questions.
You broke in at this discussion with another problem with another Vegas Pro option.
In the future it is better that you start your own topic with your own problem.

My apologies! His grey screen is what I was getting in Vegas capture as well. Same issue - no video.
