Vegas Pro 19.0 Completly different colours after rendering video

Comments

If we give infos, we should give positives as negatives as well.

Known Issues:
...
While previewing the timeline in VEGAS Pro™, some colors may appear inverted.
...

Important Notes:
...
OpenGL applications that are 10-bit aware are no longer supported with HDR display capabilities. Enabling 10-Bit Pixel Format in advanced graphics settings is only recommended for use of 10-bit aware OpenGL applications and not required for enabling 10-Bit Color Display Capabilities.
...

As long as the driver panel shows 22.5.1 as uptodate, we then have no reason to risk an optional.

I think the users here who have AMD graphics cards would be more interested in this:

Fixed Issues:

VCE presets may be in mixing in VEGAS Pro™ with some AMD Graphics Products such as the Radeon™ RX 6600 Graphics

@Yelandkeil while keeping 22.5.1 is always an option, also testing and seeing if 22.8.2 works. If it doesn't, reporting the issue I would guess help in getting it fixed. And it's easy to go back to 22.5.1.

Tried 22.8.1. It's not the color shift.

My HDR10 displays are simply out of control.

Oh, I omitted one word: Tried 22.8.1. It's not only the color shift.

Reading the important note "OpenGL applications that are 10-bit aware are no longer supported with HDR display capabilities. " in 22.8.2, then I know my second display will not come back to sRGBspace after I played an HDR10-video in full screen. It stays in Rec2020?space. Like you watch a LOG-video in normal player.

And the main display sank into nirvana for seconds between space-switching then flashed back...in short, the MPC-HC Player, the Windows WCG-management, even the Adrenalin Driver Panel cannot control 10bit depth which goes flawless in 22.5.1.

I had same inverted color problem when I upgraded to AMD driver 22.8.1 and then 22.8.2 on RX 6700 XT. But the suggestion to change to 32-bit worked for me on Vegas 20 Pro Suite; particularly "32-bit floating point (video levels)". The Full Range option made the colors even worse. I'm not going to downgrade the driver unless something else is broken. Anyway, I'm glad I found this solution from @iEmby thank you.

@rebigo curious as to what negatives would be present in "downgrading" the AMD driver to 22.5.1.

@Reyfox It depends on your situation. I tend to use the latest drivers whenever I detect an issue but I rarely revert unless it's catastrophic. Vegas isn't the only software I use, and usually the driver optimizations improve performance in the my other apps for OpenGL or DirectX. For your question in particular, you might consider 22.5.2 because Direct-X 11 performance improved by 8% for 6000 series cards -- granted it was for "games" but my professional 3D apps use the same GPU as a game so I'll take increased performance over an older yet potentially more stable driver. After all, it's not as if Vegas doesn't crash :)

Reyfox wrote on 8/29/2022, 12:14 PM

@rebigo thanks for the tip of 22.5.2. I wasn't aware of it being available until you gave me the link. I downloaded and installed it and so far, all is well.

The problem I was having with 22.8.x was that some colors were reversed, especially with some of the motion graphics or backgrounds I would use. So for the moment, I'll stay where I am until a "stable" driver comes out.

You also mention 32bit floating point. How is that working out for you with the latest drivers and Vegas?

I'm using rx 570 amd card, my colors looks okay in preview but it changes to a weird one after i begin rendering process, current driver is 22.8.1, i don't think the issue has been fixed in 22.8.2. Is there any way to tweak settings in vegas pro so my colors will look normal after render without downgrading the driver?

Reyfox wrote on 8/30/2022, 5:56 AM

@t0xe the driver release notes for the "optional" drivers 22.8.1 mentioned the Vegas color issue. And 22.8.2 does not mention it being fixed. That driver too is optional and not WQHL.

You can try in Project Properties, Pixel Format: 32-bit Floating point (video levels), and see how that works out. I haven't tried it since I am still on 22.5.x

@Reyfox 32-bit floating point video levels are fine with the 22.8.2 driver but there's a 20% drop in rendering speeds from 8-bit. I have a backlog of 8-bit footage so I've never used the 32-bit setting but will use it in the future when I get to my backlog of 10-bit footage :) On a very simple track with only fade transitions, a sharpen filter and some track noise gates in 1080p footage, it renders at an average speed of 80 fps AVC and 78 fps at HEVC (AMD VCE w/ 6Mbps avg compression) with the Radeon RX 6700 XT on an AMD 3900XT with 32gb RAM. At 8-bit I was getting at least 100 fps. Otherwise, performance with track editing is buttery smooth but there's a weird color shift when using video media generators such as titles where the preview window shows the inverted color but then when I exit out to the timeline the colors are fine again.

Now I'm debating if I should just upgrade from my current Windows 10 to 11 and go back to a WQHL driver on the reinstall! But that's a lot of work and I'm lazy :)

Reyfox wrote on 8/30/2022, 11:40 AM

@rebigo thanks for the reply. I've been going back and forth with the drivers. Last night, beta testing software, 22.8.2 caused "out of video memory" error several times. And no, not even close to using 1GB of video RAM. So I went back to 22.5.1. No issues.

I haven't done a project yet with the latest drivers with 32bit. But since we have basically identical hardware specs, no need for me to test.

As for Win11, I can wait....

Another solution is turning off gpu acceleration in vegas video settings, that helps with colors completely. Alternative is waiting for the fix, because new drivers are better for recently released games

I've got "video is cyan after rendering" issue with RX6600 using AMD driver 22.8.2 in VP18 and VP19 (rendered with Magix AVC and Voukoder encoders).

On timeline colours were fine.

It was possible to render without the issue if I turn off GPU acceletarion in Preferences/Video. Changing anything on Preferences/File I/O was not fixed the issue.

Upgraded to AMD driver 22.10.3 and the issue is gone.

Sad FXHome has done nothing with it...

I am using Vegas Pro 20; AMD Radeon 5700 graphics card; Win 10 64-bit. I recently rendered two files, 01:23:00 in length, as both .mpg and then .mp4. Both rendered files showed color shifts; bright orange shirt became sky blue, sky over ocean turned green, ocean turned brown. I updated to most recent Radeon driver 22.10.3. Not rendered since. Will check and get back to all here. Any information/advice gratefully accepted.

i have amd gpu rx 570 and i got this problem too.

i aldeady tried to swith color range to 32-bit floating point (video levels) and off "gpu acceleration of video procession" (is that option what you are talking about?) but it didnt helped for me

colors after render a bit different comparing to original, not so much but anyway thats a problem(
