Vegas Pro 19 - not responding when placing video on timeline

william-g wrote on 4/9/2022, 10:30 PM

Hi

So many, many problems with Vegas Pro 19. Yesterday all good - was doing a project - today unable to view any video file on the timeline. As soon as a video is dragged onto the timeline Vegas stops responding - I can leave it for 2 hours and still won't respond.

Uninstalled it, reinstalled it - same thing. In good old reliable Vegas Pro 17 the very same files work perfectly. This is happening with files that yesterday worked perfectly in 19, rendered perfectly in 19 - but today - it is stuffed. Have the latest update (build 550)

I'm a t areal loss with it - so many problems with 19 - apart from doing a fresh install of Windows 10 and starting all over again, I have no clue on where to go with this.

There were no other changes to the PC between yesterday and today - worked perfectly yesterday, PC shut down, today not working at all

Any advice gratefully appreciated

Ryzen 7 5800X processor, 64gb of RAM, Nivdia GTX 1650 card.

thanks

Try resetting Vegas Pro back to its factory settings as per https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-can-i-reset-vegas-pro-to-default-settings--104646/ making sure to check the checkbox to clear the cache. This often solves many problems that uninstalling and re-installing doesn't solve.

Hi - thanks for that - tried it, made no difference. Ended up doing a clean install of Windows 10 - and the problem still exisits. Tried previous build (424) - same thing. any MP4 file (which are activated) just won't load on the timeline. Yet all work in VP 17. Really am at a loss now.

That is weird, you could upload a sample file to a file sharing site for others to check and potentially find a solution. If your media files are very large you can use shutter encoder and use "Cut without re-encoding" option

Since the media works in Vegas Pro 17, go to Options/Preferences/File I/O (tab) as well as the Deprecated Features tab in VP17 and see what settings have been checked or not checked there, and then go to File I/O and Deprecated Features in VP 19 and see if much the same settings have been checked / unchecked. The difficuty is that the selections between 17 and 19 are somewhat different particularly in File I/O. In VP 19's File I/O tab, is Enable Legacy AVC Decoding checked or unchecked? Whichever it is, try the opposite setting.

Also, Is the Hardware Decoder to Use the same setting for both 17 and 19 in the File I/O tab? If not, change 19's setting to match 17.

If none of this is successful, it would be useful to upload a MediaInfo report (a free app) of an example of your media so that forum members might identify something from that report. I will give that a go - nothing now works on the timeline in VP19 - any sort of video file. It is a fresh installation of both Windows and VP17 & 19. any file loaded, as soon as you drag it onto the timeline VP19 "not responding" - so there is something quite wrong with it. Used to wrk perfectly until last weekend. Now I can't get it to work at all - even with a fresh installtion. Odd

Well after much tiral and error, I narrowed it down to the lastest Nvidia driver. Had no impact on VP17, but crippled VP19 - which shows how different they are "under the hood". Gone back to an older driver and VP19 is working fine again. Thanks for your suggestions.
