Vegas Pro 20 crashing when trying to render

Amir-Vinci wrote on 4/12/2023, 2:33 PM

I'm experiencing crashes when trying to render and I just updated to Vegas Pro 20 build370

I'm on

Windows computer with:
- Windows 10 Home, 64-Bit
- Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU X 990 @ 3.47GHz
- 24574 MB RAM

I'm trying to Render a Magix AVC Internet HD 1080p

I did try several other templates.

I thought maybe the media I used was an issue but the preview worked fine and I tried many other projects I edited on Pro 17 which I still have installed. The same projects rendered perfectly in Pro 17, I press render and I get the progress bar until finished while the Pro 20 hangs and after several minutes it crashes.

Already uninstalled and reinstalled and I'm not sure what to do next...

Real time preview working fine. Tried disabling hardware acceleration and also AVC legacy... to no avail.

Bummed! Project doesn't open in Pro 17 but I might just re-edit it there.

Try first to reset the program and not (un- and))installing this build,
Resetting by following exactly this link: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-can-i-reset-vegas-pro-to-default-settings--104646/

Thanks, I tried several times, I do see the dialog and check the checkbox then I tried to continue holding the ctrl+Shift But it keeps crashing. Again with the same project that works well with Pro 17.

What should I try next?

Keeps happening to me too. Has been happening to me for the past 3-4 months. I have reported it several times and no one has got back to me. Software is a joke right now, adding features we don't need and not fixing issues.

Dear j-v and Wolfgang

Thanks for the attention.

I'm sure you intend to help but the information "required" seems irrelevant and not useful. I'll provide what I can and answer where its just not applicable -

Device name    User-PC
Processor    Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU       X 990  @ 3.47GHz   3.46 GHz
Installed RAM    24.0 GB
Device ID   *
Product ID    *
System type    64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
Pen and touch    No pen or touch input is available for this display

Edition    Windows 10 Home
Version    22H2
Installed on    ‎30/‎12/‎2020
OS build    19045.2846
Experience    Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.4190.0

Vegas 20 build 370

Media - In the current test case it's just a JPEG 6000/4000 no alpha. generated by Nikon 5200DSLR. Dragged on timeline for 10 seconds with no special process, but the same result happens with any media in any project.

Trying to render to any format will cause this crash, thus the format is not relevant and as away of troubleshooting I did try multiple formats etc...every time I press Render it hangs not responding to anything until it crashes and exits.

Also, I could edit, the problem is rendering an edited movie using any source material and rendering to any destination format where what I wanted was to use MAGIX AVC/AAC MP4 - Internet 1080p 25fps

I don't see how any of this info can help you help me. If there's a specific piece of info you may need, please let me know, but please don't send me to a generic list of information that doesn't seem related to my issue.

Next, forum is great for knowlege sharing and help from the community, this case requires actual technical support. Where does a Vegas pro for year and years go to get this nowadays.

For now I'll have to seek an alternative. I love editing with Vegas, but, I need my edits rendered and it's not currently working.

Thanks

@Amir-Vinci
Thanks for the Info.
With your settings I tried to do the same (GPU settings in Pref/Video and Pref/File IO set to off) and with me no problem. It renders OK

Sorry but I cannot help you further.

This doesn't look like a settings or media issue but an issue with VEGAS being broken on this PC.

I'd uninstall it and look for all traces of VEGAS in appdata, etc. and delete it. Or if you're not comfortable with that see if support can help.

Amir-Vinci wrote on 4/14/2023, 5:11 AM

I’m sure it works on many systems. Also it doesn’t matter what the media source or output type. On this very same system Vegas pro 17 does render successfully… 20 seems to have some issue preventing it from starting the actual rendering process. Its a bug that happens in some conditions.
But my current question is, where can one report bugs or get actual tech support.
thanks again for trying.

Did I see that right? You have no GPU in your system?

According to the specification of the processor, you have also no i-GPU:

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/sku/52585/intel-core-i7990x-processor-extreme-edition-12m-cache-3-46-ghz-6-40-gts-intel-qpi/specifications.html

And you have set the GPU to off.

Really? Because then I come to the conclusion, that your system does not fullfill the minimum system requirements for Vegas?

https://www.vegascreativesoftware.com/us/specifications/

Please tell me that I am wrong and that you have only forgoten to list the GPU.

I understand the missing answer as confirmation, that an appropriate GPU is missing really. Only because the rendering has worken on Vegas Pro 17, that does not mean that rendering works also on Vegas Pro 20, where the support also of rendering by the GPU has been improved further.

Personally I saw a similar situation on one of my older systems, were it was necessary to invest in an more modern GPU.

So either the system is improved with an additional GPU at least, to be compatible with the technical specifications of Vegas Pro 20. Or Vegas Pro 17 is used further. Your choice.

Thanks Wolfgang. I do have a GPU on an AMD Radeon card. But you are correct that my system is quite old and even the CPU isn't 8th Generation. Actually the i7 990X is a 1st generation.
I uncheck the GPU as it gives me problems in the preview and I ignore the System requirements as they are more like a - Validated on.... and certified to operate.

For the most part, software works very well on this system which has been a workhorse since 14 years!

I will probably be getting a new system sometime pretty soon, but Vegas 20 was originally rendering on this very system and at some point, it stopped.

I appreciate the attention and willingness to help, however, I will resort to using Pro 17 For now. I do think the system should be able to handle it and that the GPU doesn't matter when it's not used.

For what its worth, I believe there's some bug in the routine that launches the Rendering services that sets it into an infinite loop rather than rendering. The bug manifests itself in conditions which we may perhaps understand if we can debug the software through assertions.

Wolfgang S. wrote on 4/16/2023, 2:20 PM

The CPU is ok I think. But what AMD Radeon card do you have?

Did you make a support request? That it once worked with this system, but does no longer, and that a reset didn't help are puzzling.

Support for that GPU ended by VP 18. If the GPU is completely disabled in device manager does VP 18+ work? Personally I left a computer with similar specs on VP 12 and didn't try to use newer versions of VEGAS before upgrading the hardware.

Amir-Vinci wrote on 4/16/2023, 10:59 PM

Thanks! I’m resorting to 17. May try tech support but right now it’s time to work with what I have.

Wolfgang S. wrote on 4/16/2023, 11:39 PM

I have not been able to find out, if this GPU supports vce 3.0 really. Beside your wish to work with what you have, I have seen earlier that outdated AMD GPUs does not allow to render in VP19/20.

So that should be checked by you.
