Vegas Pro 20 Steam Edit Import Issue

CJG31 wrote on 1/20/2025, 3:29 AM

So I recently have been filming using my Fujifilm X-T4. I have filmed using the All-I 400mbs 4k/30p .MOV. When I import that footage directly into Vegas Pro 20 Steam Edit, the preview is completely black and blank but with audio. I have over 700+ hours worth of experience using this program (and thousands of hours on previous builds) and I have never encountered this before. I am on latest version of Windows 11 Pro, full AMD build (Ryzen 7 5800X3D, Radeon RX 6950XT gpu) everything is up to date and nothing is overclocked. Any words of advice to solve my issue on here would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It may be something specific the media; can you share details (like the codec; 8 vs 10 bit) with MediaInfo?

@CJG31 would it be possible to provide a short native sample of the problematic footage that can be downloaded and tested? It doesn't have to be anything special. I also have an all AMD computer similar to yours.

@CJG31 Hi, Google Drive is my preferred file sharing option. (There's no 'Accept cookies' etc on Google 😉)

1. Open Google, top right is a sq of dots - Open Google Drive.
2. Drag that video onto the Google Drive window, let it upload.
3. Right click on the file on screen - Share.
4. A window will pop up, General Access - choose Anyone with the link - Copy link.
5. Then on here in a new comment at the top there's a chain button, paste the link on there
6. Click Comment

Ultimately I did find a work around this, albeit it adds quite a bit of more time and effort to my workflow. I simply just sent out a 10-bit signal from my XT-4 camera via an hdmi cable over to my Atomos Ninja V+, hit playback and recorded my footage into 10-bit Pro Res 4:2:2 and Vegas seems to love that codec, a bit annoying how it doesn't want to accept the actual video files from the camera itself. No biggie. I guess I can close or mark this thread as "solved"?

@CJG31 In the link @RogerS gave & he asked for a request for MediaInfo,

The App is called MediaInfo, download it, it's free & a fast download with no added adverts or any of that rubbish https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo.
After downloading, right click on the media file in your Windows folder, open MediaInfo, choose Text from the options at the top, drag the edges of the window that pops up so it shows all the information & screen capture that page, post that image on here using the arrow button next to the smiley at the top of a new comment 👍

Or Copy & paste the information in a new comment like this -

If you can share a file as Reyfox suggested we can test it and also upload MediaInfo for you. Hopefully we can get this fixed (if it isn't yet fixed in newer versions).

Glad you found a workaround and you're right, ProRes plays back very well in VEGAS.
