Greetings,

Need mediainfo of the Meta Quest 3 recorded MP4: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-to-post-mediainfo-and-vegas-pro-file-properties--104561/

Also, if you can provide a sample in online drive (google drive / dropbox / etc.), we can try testing it.

@MartinIT

Conform to 59.94 fps and rewrap in Shutter Encoder and move on with your life.

@john_dennis

You are really kind, I will try your technique. But allow me, I'm perplexed as to whether professional software requires having to use third-party apps to edit certain videos.

I've tried all the other editing software and there isn't this problem. It's absurd to me, considering how much I paid for the software.

rraud wrote on 12/11/2023, 12:28 PM

Vegas generally has trouble with variable frame rate files. The expert video folks here usually recommend, transcoding it with HandBrake or the aforementioned Shutter Encoder.

Reyfox wrote on 12/11/2023, 12:42 PM

Your variable frame rate video has a lot of 23fps and a high of 120fps. And your frame rate is set to 59.94fps. I would think that that would be the issue. Video editing is constant frame rate. Most editing software can cope with slight differences, but again, 23-120 is a huge difference.

Handbrake is easy to use. Export at Constant Frame rate as posted above.

Interesting that Quest 3 capture at such weird variable framerat, while the display refresh rate is usually fixed 90Hz. Why not produce a fixed framerate 90fps video?

But yes, Vegas should read such files too, if it's PRO after all.

MartinIT wrote on 12/11/2023, 3:02 PM

This happened after an update. From what I've read, it's actually 120Hz, limited to 90Hz. Maybe they're finally experimenting with 120Hz? In a bug we found an easteregg of a possible future update

I don't know of a direct correlation between screen refresh rate and video capture rate. Maybe the headsets are different?

It's segmented H.264 which Vegas can't read, This is DASH, and like @MartinIT said, enjoys wide spread support in Video editors. Complaints about incompatibility with DASH go back many years

@MartinIT

File a feature request.

Obviously you're not the first person to face this issue, nor is it exclusive to Vegas.

I've never heard of "dash" until today. Resolve will play the clip, but Magix other software, Movie Studio and Video Pro X won't and neither will Pinnacle Studio, which only displays a single frame.

ADDED: Neither will Hitflim Pro 2021.3 import that file.

@MartinIT

Thank you! But I already knew all these solutions.

But I thought that a professional VEGAS Pro program would be able to handle this problem automatically.

We're not talking about cheap free editing software, we're talking about software that's supposed to be the best of the best. Free editing software like CapCut handles these problems without any problems. it's a bit embarrassing...

But you are not to blame. I just hope the developers open their eyes and finally put a band-aid on a problem that has apparently been around for years!

Is Dash a professional acquisition or editing format? Professional editing software is often limited in what formats it can work with, see Avid and Resolve.

What do you mean by this? 😊

I don't think it's necessary to justify a lack of a feature because "dash isn't professional enough, so we don't care." Editing software of this level should work on everything.

A videomaker has many equipment and ways to record videos. An unexpected event like this slows down your work and if you don't know the solution quickly, it could also cause economic damage.

Luckily, in my case nothing urgent and nothing important... but I put myself in the shoes of other people who could find themselves in these strange situations.
