Vegas Pro 22 no longer starts Win 11 Pro

CRIB_AU wrote on 11/23/2025, 12:33 AM

As from today, my Vegas Pro 22 stops when I try to launch it. It produces an error form. I've uninstalled then re installed it but to no effect. It shows the blue square splash, reads the plugins, etc... then stops and display the error form.
I have no idea of what is causing this...

Windows 11 Pro 24H2 Build 26100.7171
Does anyone have any idea about what is causing this???

@CRIB_AU  There is currently a recent issue with MS Visual Studio impacting software, if you have MS Visual Studio, this may be the culprit. Check out following post:

@bitman I haven't got MS Visual Studio installed on my PC. But THANKS anyway!

@CRIB_AU

Sometimes a corrupt or incompatible plugin causes this issue, perhaps check the installed plugins and delete them temporary.
Also do not forget to clear the Vegas cache and restore to defaults during launch often clears such issues.
A reinstall does not clear everything, settings and preferences are kept for instance.

If you ae getting the "Vegas has stopped working' window, please check the 2 checkboxes (for details) and screen-dump and upload the image to this thread so that the problem may be able to be identified.

If it is not the "Vegas has stopped working" window, what exactly is the error message along with any error code that may be given.

Hi there,
Here is the info:
I've been using Vegas Pro 22 for a long time but, all of a sudden (starting from today) it stops after "Initializing UI" when I try to launch it. It produces an error form.
I've uninstalled then re installed it but to no effect. It shows the blue square splash, reads the plugins, etc... then stops and display the error form.
I have no idea of what is causing this...

I've uninstalled 22 completely once again. Then installed it again then did the following:
Renamed the following files:
Under C:\Program Files\Common Files\
OFX, VST2 and VST3 -----> ....._backup
Under C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Local\VEGAS Pro
22.0 ----> 22.0_backup
RESULT: Error persists
Then I did the same for versions 19 and 21 and the error persists so I believe there is something wrong with my system... something has changed yesterday that has impacted on Vegas.

EricLNZ wrote on 11/23/2025, 8:27 PM

@CRIB_AU If you haven't done it try starting with a "Factory Reset". Instructions here https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-can-i-reset-vegas-pro-to-default-settings--104646/

This may clear a problem which uninstalling & reinstalling doesn't as mentioned by bitman.

Also you could try a Windows System Restore to a date prior to your problem starting.

@EricLNZ Did that but to no avail. Thanks anyway, mate!

@CRIB_AU  ... It seems that you've unsuccessfully gone through the main procedures to try to fix the problem, but there's one other procedure you could try - and that is to do a clean uninstall of Vegas Pro 22 following the process outlined her:

https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-can-i-do-a-clean-uninstall-of-vegas-pro--111205/

This involves editing the registry so if you're familiar with editing the registry this shouldn't be much of a problem. However, if you're not familiar with editing the registry, be very careful and follow the procedure exactly because, when editing the registry, there's no Undo (Ctrl-Z) feature ... but you can R click the registry item before deletion and click 'Export' to save that as a backup to a chosen folder destination (I think that's how it works anyway).

For Vegas Pro 22, only registry folder names featuring "VEGAS Creative Software' will apply.

Afterwards, cleaning the registry with a cleaner such as CCleaner is a good idea.

After re-installing Vegas Pro 22, you'll need to fully go through the activation process as the registry clean also removes previous activation/serial number data.

@CRIB_AU, @Krym With you both the Fault Module is shown as C:\Windows\SYSTEM32\ntdll.dll

I assume "ntdll.dll" is related to your NVIDIA GPU. I have a different NVIDIA GPU but have a same named dll. I note it has a very recent date. I wonder if the problem is related to a recent GPU driver update that you might have had?

Yes, I tried everything from reinstalling to DDU to DISM/sfc to even switching back windows version but that might be the case for me because I switched back to Windows 10 and might have altered or corrupted a registry and switched back to Windows 11, and this all started, I do not have Visual Studio but I do have the Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022

RogerS wrote on 11/24/2025, 8:33 AM

I thought ntdll.dll is Windows so if something corrupted there in these rollbacks and upgrades VEGAS can be affected. You don't have a system image to restore do you?

andyrpsmith wrote on 11/24/2025, 9:50 AM

Yes ntdll.dll is a core windows file used by many applications. The exception code 0xc0000005 means STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION, which usually means there's a value XYZ that something is trying to read, except XYZ is actually 000, which means "no value here". The thing reading it expects a value, and when it gets the "no value here" it raises the above error.

(Intel 3rd gen i5@4.1GHz, 32GB RAM, SSD, 1080Ti GPU, Windows 10) Not now used with Vegas.

13th gen i913900K - water cooled, 96GB RAM, 4TB M2 drive, 4TB games SSD, 2TB video SSD, GPU RTX 4080 Super, Windows 11 pro

Yeah I have a an SSD backup from 3 weeks ago because I recently switched SSDs. I will try one last time to try and repair windows and fully uninstall Vegas.

CRIB_AU wrote on 11/25/2025, 1:53 AM

Hi everyone,
Thanks for all your support. After spending two full days trying everything under the sun to fix the problem, I have finally found what was causing it... the recent Visual C++ V14 Redistributable (20/11/2025) was corrupted.... I had tried a repair in both x86 and X64 versions yesterday but that didn't solve the problem.... today I had a go at Uninstalling/Installing both versions and voila! So @Krym, it did the trick for me!
I have a theory on what could have corrupted the Visual C++ V14 Redistributables but I have no technical knowledge to say whether it's possible or not. Therefore I won't post it here, as it's not related to Vegas.
Thanks again!
Cheers!
