So it's a media specific issue?

So it's a media specific issue?

I don't believe it's a media-specific issue.

I've tested a wide range of file types, including ProRes, H.264, and H.265 (both 8-bit and 10-bit), and the issue persists across all of them. As I've noted, the problem only began after installing VEGAS Pro 23,the issue is replicated across both of my computers, and it is present regardless of the recent Windows update.

Thanks for reporting this. So both computers and with a variety of media. Could you provide a simple project with sample media for us to test on different systems? What's the common cause I wonder.

Reyfox wrote on 9/30/2025, 5:22 AM

I too see the same results on my computer. With VP22, it is not an issue. I can slowly move either audio or video smoothly along the timeline. Of course, large movements take a moment to catch up, but putting a clip where I want is easier in VP22.

Thanks @Abdali, now I see what you are reporting. It's not an issue with playback but rather moving the audio or video once ungrouped. My normal workflow involves unrelated audio and video tracks so I didn't notice this.

Yes, you've described the problem exactly: the playback is fine; it's the dragging motion after ungrouping that is the main issue.

Did you experience the same lag when you tried to reproduce it on your system? The most confounding detail for me is that after installing VEGAS Pro 23, this bug started happening in both my VEGAS Pro 21 and VEGAS Pro 22 as well.

Appreciate the suggestion.

I already tried reinstalling VEGAS Pro 21,22 & 23, but unfortunately, it did not resolve the issue.

Thanks so much for confirming the bug in VP23!

Since it also spread to my older versions, do you think the VP23 installer made some kind of permanent change to an internal setting.? or modified a program file that all the VEGAS versions rely on.?

NEW FINDING

I have discovered a critical factor regarding the "jerky and laggy dragging after ungrouping" issue: i think it appears to be dependent on the display resolution.

The issue completely disappears when I switch from my 1080p Monitor to edit on my 4K TV (with the PC resolution set to native 4K). Editing is entirely smooth.

When I switch back to my 1080p monitor (without changing anything else on the system), the problem immediately returns.

The issue for now seems to be a display-related performance or drawing bug.

Hopefully helps narrow down the cause.

Same here, tested your .veg and video. No problem as described by you. Then I grouped the video and audio tracks again, moved them several times, then ungrouped them again, but still got the same result as Jack.

Thank you for taking the time to test the clip and confirm your results! That is genuinely appreciated.

I have a quick clarification question:

Did you open the video in the exact VEGAS project file (.veg) I attached, or did you create a new project of your own and just import the video clip.?

Thank you for confirming the exact same result as Jack S. It looks like the issue is very specific.

I guess it truly is just a very small handful of us who are experiencing this strange bug.

Just tried your veg file on a 1080P monitor and I see slight lag especially with the sound file and slightly less lag with the video file but it is there.

Tried the clip with V22 and get the same, so on my PC not an issue just with V23.

At first I did just import the clip into an empty project. After reading your question though, I downloaded the project file and used that. Same result I'm afraid. No lag at all.
