Vegas Pro 365: no icon on task bar and desk top after downloading

Guenther-Schubert wrote on 12/12/2022, 8:03 AM

After the purchase (yesterday) of Vegas Pro 365 I received the SN which I used to identify and download the software packages from Magix Download Center. Installation process was finished successfully, however, there is no icon on task bar or desk top to start the movie software!! The Settings/apps&features, which list all software in the computer, Vegas Pro 20 is listed. In contrast Sound Forge has an icon after download and I was able to register it when I opened the app the first time. Any help what is going wrong with the installation of Vegas Pro 365?

It seems that a small thing was overlooked in the installation routine.
This was a topic before, but I can't find the post now.
The best thing to do is to drag the icon from the list to the desktop and from there to the taskbar and that's it.

It's a checkbox you have to check to get it automatically created under "options" (or something like that) in the installer. Personally, I just created my own shortcut as the automatically created ones kept getting deleted and recreated (and MOVED) on subsequent updates. My manually created one never gets changed.

Thank you for responding; it's very much appreciated. I'll try it out after I finish my current movie project which is in the editing stage. In the mean time I found out that newer software is not 100% compatible with older versions in the editing process. In other words, the movie needs to be edited to the end and rendered with the same version of software.

I was looking for this box but did not see it. Now that I know that there is a way to create my icon I'll try it.

Thanks,

You cannot open a newer version of VEGAS' project files in older versions, but you can open older versions' project files in a newer version.

Systems:

Desktop

AMD Ryzen 7 1800x 8 core 16 thread at stock speed

64GB 3000mhz DDR4

Geforce RTX 3090

My editing project is moving along on my old Movie Maker 16 which I was able to stabilize by unloading plug-ins. What happened in a nut shell: Because I did not get Vegas Pro 365 to work a couple of days ago (I am under a time constraint to finish a project) I upgraded the old software MM16 to the latest version Movie Maker 2023 to get the latest features. After loading my current project into the latest version I realized that all the titles were gone! A bad surprise! I loaded it again in the old version MM16 where the titles were still there. I am sure there may be a reason but and a work around. But at this point of time I need to move on in my project and don't get distracted to become a troubleshooter historian. When this movie is finished I'll switch over to the new version. Thanks for your input.

@Guenther-Schubert "Movie Maker 16"? What programme is that? Do you mean Vegas Movie Studio 16. Likewise by "Movie Maker 2023" do you mean Movie Studio 2023? If so please be aware that Movie Studio 2023 is a completely different programme to Vegas Movie Studio 16. MS2023 is what was Magix Movie Edit Pro renamed.

You are correct, it is Vegas Studio 16 and Movie Studio 2023. When Magix offered an upgrade for VS16 I did not not realized that the upgrade is an entirely different program. Now it makes sense that I have 2 icons on the desktop, one for each program, and that there is no backward compatibility.

Thanks,
