The new titler is indeed a major upgrade.
it is fully keyframable at every parameter, with motion paths, etc.
you can finally scale without aliasing, shift gradients inside the letters, etc.
"Additionally, Vegas Pro 8 software supports timeline monitoring using DeckLink cards, at all supported resolutions."
This feature has been in Vegas for a while, although it didn't always work, but I wonder if this support now includes the Intensity Pro and has the integration been improved?
"i guess i was right about it being a32bot rebuild, which is no bad thing.
Im sure a 64bit verson will follow.. prolly NAB next year.."
========================================================
Well, I'll sure take what their handing out now... but I'm having a tough time hiding my disappointment over the 64 bit no-show. I spent quite a bit of money upgrading my machine specifically for a 64 bit version. :(
...maybe if they revamped the internal engine, this will allow to have Rewire slaving in a next issue ? I guess tha'd be good news for audio guys here...
Vegas Pro 8 NLE Software Delivers Customizable Creation Tools Including ProType Titling Technology, Multicamera Editing, AVCHD Workflow and Blu-ray Disc Burning
(MADISON, WI - August 30, 2007) Sony Creative Software, a leading provider of professional video and audio editing applications, today announced Vegas Pro 8 software, the newest version of its award-winning nonlinear editing (NLE) software.
Vegas Pro 8 provides professional editors with precise control over complex DV, HDV and XDCAM projects through powerful tools for editing material shot in multi-camera environments. Vegas Pro 8 will be available September 10, 2007.
"Vegas Pro 8 solves many of the technical challenges creative professionals are currently facing as they are tasked with producing content for platforms as varied as the mobile screen to high definition, broadcast-quality video," said Dave Chaimson, vice president of marketing for Sony Creative Software. "Equipped with a new 32-bit floating point video engine, Vegas Pro 8 delivers increased quality and accuracy of final output while handling a 10-bit serial digital interface (SDI) at full capacity, which is used for transmission of uncompressed, unencrypted digital video signals."
Now fully Microsoft Vista-compatible, Vegas Pro 8 software expertly delivers broadcast-ready, high definition content through its flexible user interface and extensive professional toolset. Vegas Pro 8 now features a ProType titler for superior vector-based title generation and automation. New specialized template support for developing digital signage provides tools and features for portrait style video authoring required for enhancing visual displays at retail shops, tradeshows and other events requiring compelling imagery at the 9:16 resolution.
The software also offers enhanced scripting capabilities for automating complex workflows in addition to providing new capabilities for editing and delivering Sony AVCHD content. Sony Vegas Pro 8 also introduces a new channel-based mixing console and other audio enhancements, continuing its legacy as the most optimized solution for integrating audio within the video production environment. Also included with Vegas Pro 8 is DVD Architect 4.5, which has been updated with a total of 44 professional design themes.
"The Vegas Pro 8 designers seemed to have heeded well the wish-lists of both professional and amateur videographers alike in crafting this generation of the software," said Richard Doherty, research director and co-founder of digital media analyst firm the Envisioneering Group." No other standalone video editing suite delivers both the power and flexibility demanded by professionals along with an ease of use and enthusiast-friendly learning curve which makes amateurs feel professional - fast!"
Sony Creative Software is also introducing interactive tutorials with the release of the Vegas Pro 8 application. These tutorials allow users to learn more effectively by taking an active role in training, while actually accomplishing the task at hand as they complete the lesson. The interactive tutorials provide an easy transition for users adapting from a more traditional nonlinear editing system to the new and progressive workflow of Vegas Pro 8.

I am at least glad to see things stirred up over this major upgrade. I could go without the stick poking but I geuss it comes with the territory. I have been a loyal Vegas user since V2 and I have Premier, FCP, AE and all of the others I could use, but the only one I use and have ever really used is Vegas. have released 2 DVD projects worldwide, One broadcast on VH1 and an upcomming on HDNET and my customers are super happy with my projects. In fact this last one on HDNET was a reedit of a FCP project and even HDNET agreed the Vegas edit ran circles around the FCP edit. Might be the editor but none the less it is very promissing. This new vegas called Pro is just that a huge step forward for the true professional editors and I assure you, you will be happy with the improvements. It is kinda intresting hearing the back and forths I geuss like watching a drive by of a bad auto accident. Lets just try it out and then make judgements.
so when is there the *official* word on what/if the upgrade discount will be? If it's $350 & -$100 discount ($250) odds are I'll get it. My dad has my old copy of Vegas 4 & I told him I'd sell him my V6+DVDA3 for 1/2 the discount upgrade price so I pay ~$125.
"So when is there the *official* word on what/if the upgrade discount will be?" and other such concerns. Do what I and others have done:
--- Go to the official announcement page and get on the mailing list. And pay attention to that Sony thing of giving a good break within the first month of release.
So-called presently stated prices at Sony (though I couldn't find them) or elsewhere are not final. Doing anything else on this subject will just be speculation.
While Videoguys have announced the release here and at their site with some sense of possible prices, B&H has nothing on Pro 8 as of today.
We can all drive ourselves nuts between now and the official product release date slated fo sometime this September -- or just relax.
Bottom Line: Easy does it. We'll all know the answer pretty soon.

I've done that every year & NEVER get e-mail for Vegas products, only Acid & Sound Forge products. I gave up on the e-mail a long time ago. :)
My entire living is based on video, and if it's something like a $400 upgrade, that's perfectly fine with me.
I do feel there are enough cool things in it to warrant my upgrade money. An improved titler! AWESOME!
I've been in video production for 11 years now, the first 10 years using Newtek's VT system for all my editing. I moved to Vegas 7 early this year, and honestly, it rocks my world! I do long form event, performing arts and corporate work, and the Vegas 7 workflow works great for me. Now with the improvements in Vegas 8, I'm even happier.
One thing I wonder on the "Blu-Ray burning from timeline", will that at least have markers to chapter points, like the "simple" DVD from timeline in EDIUS 4?
And will the files burned to Blu-Ray from timeline be able to be used in the future DVDA that supports Blu-Ray authoring with no recompression of the video needed? Sort of like burning a MPEG-2 file to a data DVD for storage till you author it later?
as for BD authoring, i think ill stick to DVDit PROHD for now...
I prefer a seperate authoring tool as opposed to timeline restrictions, that and the fact my BD's look and behave like DVD, which is what the public want
If i just wanted something simple for PS3 owners, id throw my M2ts on a DVD5 disc and burn with nero
Theres just not enough info at thsi tiem to make a business decision on this element
With the smart render in Pro 8, is anyone that uses Cineform changing their workflow and not using an intermediate?
Also, does the "3D Track Motion" allow for an AE-type feature where I can move around with like a "camera-angle" within a photo I've imported into Vegas ("Kids in the Picture" feature). I know it could be done a little before where I could zoom in past objects, but it wasn't so much 3D.
I think my use of Cineform intermediates will decline--not only due to smart render, but also, as Spot has pointed out, due to the greater latitude to push m2t files in 32 bit mode.
Had I known this was coming I would not have invested in a new core 2 duo system a few months back. My primary reason was to get reliable and fast conversion to Cineform intermediates during capture, something my dual xeon system never would.
I hope David Newman of Cineform will jump in and give us his perspective on the advantages of Cineform use in Vegas 8.

OK, looks like it iseth pointless to waiteth for said email.
My Plan B (also everyone else's plan A, really):
--- Keep eye on the Net incl. this forum for release and possible right-after-release sale announcements during to one month after IBC 2007 (which is running between the following dates: Conference: 6 - 10 September; Exhibition: 7 - 11 September).
it's in there, Guy... I don't know why you keep insisting it's not.
The Canon files Austin Meyer uploaded open up on the timeline just fine. They play great. In fact, they're included in the Vegas 8 Update: Features Revealed" training DVD.
