Vegas Pro Connect fails to connect

Cliff Etzel wrote on 2/10/2017, 1:16 PM

Now that the Vegas Pro connect app has been released again, I'm trying to get the app on my ipad 4 to connect to my laptop on my wifi network. Even though I've entered in the correct ip and port number on my closed network (IP is 10.0.0.244 with port 7669), the app fails to connect to my computer to control VP13/VP14. Is there something I'm missing - maybe a Windows Firewall Rule I should be adding?

Is 10.0.0.244 your Local Area Network or your Wide Area Network? Usually, local area network addresses are in the range 192.168.1.21 or such.

Definitely local area.

the 192.168 and 10.0.0 are considered local network IP address blocks and I confirmed this with my laptop. Both are used for both hard wired and WiFi networks - depending on router brand and such.

Unless your iPad is somehow connected to your LAN, you need to use your WAN IP address with whatever port and have your modem/router configured to forward any request to that port to 10.0.0.244, port 7669.

Done this and triple checked all settings... The never ending saga of Vegas Pro constant kludging to get it to work, but I refuse to give up just yet.

As a follow up - my iPad's IP address on my wifi network is 10.0.0.98 while VP Connect is wanting to use 10.0.0.244 as the IP address. Port still showing is 7669

Any ideas???

Look for a configuration option in VP Connect to set the IP to match the laptop LAN IP, 10.0.0.98?

Tried that - it immediately failed, yet with the 10.0.0.244 address extension, it takes a few seconds before failing...

Tell us again, what is your laptop IP address?

Ipad IP                laptop IP                  VP Connect Configuration IP

10.0.0.98           ?????????                 10.0.0.244

Ok - had to do some digging - apparently Windows Firewall was blocking all incoming requests to Vegas Pro - I had Windows repair the port request and now can use the VP Connect App... this is pretty slick!!!

The continuing saga of Windows Firewall..

Totally on the WIndows Firewall Saga....

I'm still apprehensive to fully commit to Vegas Pro but given that a lap top upgrade isn't feasible anytime soon, and PPro CS6 is such a resource hog, I'm looking at Vegas Pro again for my work. I just wish VP13/VP14 would recognize my Quadro FX880M graphics card purely for timeline viewing acceleration. I finally got Vegas2Handbrake working with the latest version of Handbrake.

Add to that the extra hoop jumping of making sure my render settings are for PC and not TV to get the right video levels, it seems a kludge all around given how easily PPro CS6 just works, albeit with it's own issues on needing Quicktime to read any file with an MOV or MP4 wrapper.

But this might just be having to unlearn working in PPro and relearning how to work in Vegas Pro again... I honestly don't know anymore
