"VEGAS Pro is not responding"

I need HEEEELP

Unfortunately I was never able to work smoothly editing video with Vegas. I invested a lot of money to have a better computer and I still have problems.

My computer:
- Processor = AMD Ryzen 9 7950X 16-Core 4.50 GHz
- RAM = 128GB
- VIDEO = NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090
- NVME to system = SSD 4TB Kingston Fury Renegade 7300MB/s
- Water Cooler CUSTOM (recently added)

Even with this configuration during a simple working session the software crashes or "VEGAS Pro is not responding"

I've already followed numerous guidelines, list:

- I already tested turning off the GPU (it got worse)
- Already set RAM usage to 0% (nothing has changed)
- I already ran it as Administrator
- I've used Windows in Administrator mode
- I already added vst3 audio in my firewall

So I don't know what else to do, my VEGAS PRO just stops working every 5 or 10 minutes of a work session. It is important to say that during the session, while the process does not stop working, it is fluid and without bottlenecks/lockups, but suddenly in 5 or 10 minutes of the session, "VEGAS Pro is not responding"

Here are some images.

@Cateroide

After you "End Task" in Task Manager, you may be able to get more information about your error by viewing the Windows Reliability History.

Dynamic RAM preview set too high?

I have the exact same set-up as you (7950x + 4090) and I've had issues with this setup + Vegas ever since I got it. I have additional problems though; V21 is just not as smooth as V20 at all for me in general use.
My previous build, a 7900 + 3090ti didn't have any issues at all btw (and if they did, they were minor).

It's frustrating because everything else works like a dream. I've also went through the usual clean installs for drivers, clean installs of Vegas, removing RAM overlocks - absolutely nothing fixes it.

As it stands my plan is to cancel my 365 sub and just buy V20 or V19 outright when it goes on sale. My sub just renewed however, so I'm stuck with V21 in an unusable state. I know this doesn't effect everyone, but for me the new software has been a complete nightmare.

Hope you have more luck than me though.

I would check for new Studio drivers for your Nvidia via the Vegas Help Menu.

I have the same GPU and was having the exact same problem until I updated the nvidia drive today. Hope it works for you too.

@mofobo Can't you continue to use VP 20 for now with the same serial number? 365 doesn't force you to upgrade when a new version comes out. You can try 21 again after the next update (whenever that comes).

That's exactly what I'm doing right now. What I meant was I won't be continuing with 365 following this cycle and I'll just buy VP20 when it goes on sale.

I'll certainly try any new updates to 21 as they come out though (within my remaining sub time)

Thanks for clarifying and glad you're not totally stuck.

Eu tenho a mesma GPU e estava tendo exatamente o mesmo problema até atualizar o drive da nvidia hoje. Espero que funcione para você também.

Nvidia Drivers were up to date however I was using "Game Ready Driver" not "Studio Driver" is there a preference for Vegas PRO 210?

Cateroide wrote on 9/7/2023, 4:37 PM

I just updated the "Studio Driver" I was using the "Game Ready Driver" version

This is undoubtedly the root of your problem. Search 'nahimic' on this forum, and get rid of it; it's a baddie.

Also stick with the 'Studio' driver for video editing.

I found this on my computer, it was an Asus Sonic audio dll, I removed it from installed programs. thank you very much for the tip, I will test it later during work and come back with more information.

RogerS wrote on 9/8/2023, 12:18 AM

Interesting that here Nahimic is interfering with the audio Fx engine. I'd heard of it causing resource conflicts related to graphics before but that was addressed by VP 21.
