Vegas Pro keeps crashing when loading frames

Riley-Bingham wrote on 10/1/2023, 8:33 PM

Everytime i try to edit a clip in vegas pro 20, i get an error code. This wasn't happening about 8-12 months ago when i edited a different video, so idk if its a more common thing but i've tried all of the common problems with Vegas Pro 20. I've tried uninstalling the program, I've tried fixing the dynamic ram preview, I've tried turning off the gpu acceleration, I've tried turning off multi-core rendering. I think I've tried anything, anyways this is my final call for help.

Final call? There are so many other things to try.

First put the settings you changed back to as they were.

Next, what's the media specifically? Answer using mediainfo.

What is your CPU and GPU?

Do you have issues rendering or editing either of the projects in my signature? Most likely it's an issue with captured media VEGAS doesn't like and converting it using a free third-party program would solve your problem.

Your media is strange 1920x1017. OBS would refuse to capture at that resolution due to incompatibilities. Maybe that's the problem. If there's a requirement to capture at that resolution instead of normal 1080P try 1920x1016 which is divisible by 4 giving it better compatibility

My CPU is an i7 9700k and I have a 2080ti, but like I’ve said before I’ve never had problems like this and idk why it’s happening now, also to respond to the other person, I fixed the resolution on obs idk why it reverted but I didn’t notice it reverted so I’ll check that out too. It’s outputted in MP4, what should I try converting it to?

For changing the resolution, could I simply convert the footage I have now and convert it to 1080 or lower? Because I’ve already recorded a lot of footage and I don’t want to just trash it yknow?

The picture you posted doesn't show any "error code," and you have shared no information about the problem.

All it says is the basic error code you get for Unmanaged Exception, which is error code 0xc0000005. Then in the details says it’s for the .exe file for Vegas pro 20 and the .dll file

If it's got an odd number of lines unless there's a way to just trim a line off I'd forget about this footage. Not sure if ShutterEncoder can deal with it, but that's the program I use for getting troublesome video to work in VEGAS.

mp4 is a container and doesn't say anything about what's in it. You forgot to supply MediaInfo.

I assume your CPU's integrated GPU is doing decoding in preferences/ file io? If it isn't enable it in bios.

Sorry if I’m not giving enough information, I’m not new to editing but I’m new to the more advanced part of the editing stuff. So I’ll mess around with trying to actually edit a 1080p video and see if it crashes and if it doesn’t then that must be the problem, but also should I not be using mp4 or should I use a different file? I’ll for sure check out shutterencoder so thank you for that recommendation. Also the 1920x1017 is the only different from now and when I used to edit videos so it has to be the problem

I understand, you only need to know this stuff when things go wrong!

I use MPC Black Edition player and it has MediaInfo built in (file/properties). That info gives us a lot more info than just saying 1080p AVC or MP4. MP4 is a container that can hold wildly different file types, not all of which work well in VEGAS.

Anyway, AVC in a MP4 container is good for VEGAS. In OBS also set a keyframe interval of 1 instead of zero for better editing performance.

I’ll check that out and I used to have all my settings set up in obs but they must’ve reverted at some point and I probably need to go through and fix everything again. If I can use AVC and it works well then I’ll start using that better, mp4 is just the widely known thing so that’s what I thought was best lol. I should be able to hop on my pc in a second and check out all of the solutions we have discussed.

AVC or h.264 is one of many media types that can go in an mp4 container. It can also go in .mov (same difference in VEGAS).

Yep, for some reason my obs is rescaling it to 1920x1017 for whatever reason so i fixed that setting and did the 1s key interval. Honestly, i think that fixed my problem, which now makes me feel really dumb seeing how i saw that and fixed it but i never went to the output itself and fixed it lol. Anyways, thanks so much for your help!!
