VEGAS Pro New Features Monthly Poll - August 2024

fr0sty wrote on 8/6/2024, 9:12 PM

In this thread, you can vote on new features that you want to see included in VEGAS Pro by clicking "Thank You" under each post below that has a new feature requests on it. Below are the top 10 new features based on which got the most "thank you's".

Click Here to Submit New Feature Requests

Please note that this is a completely unofficial poll, and results from this poll do not guarantee in any way that any of the features will be added in upcoming versions of VEGAS Pro. It will be up to the developers to determine which features they have the resources to implement and when. DO NOT EXPECT THESE FEATURES ON THIS LIST TO BE IMPLEMENTED ANYTIME SOON. I don't want to set anyone up for disappointment.

This is just a personal project I'm doing to help keep track of feature requests, and nothing more.

The goal of this is to help the team keep a finger on the pulse of what the community wants. Each month, the top 10 from the previous month will automatically be added to the poll for the following month, along with a +2 "thank yous" added to their score for winning the previous round.

Tiebreakers: In the event that entries are tied for the number of votes, they will be listed in the order they were posted.

(This list will be updated every monday, so it will be populated next monday.)

Integrated Masking

Think how masking works in VEGAS Effects or After Effects. You don't add an effect or open the pan/crop window. You just click on either a shape mask and draw it out directly on the preview monitor, or you click on the bezier pen tool and draw your mask in, also directly on the preview window. This would also provide an opportunity to integrate smart masking directly into the preview window. To select which clip you want to mask, just click an event on the timeline, similar to how you do event-level color grading.

From there, the masks will be integrated into a drop-down menu underneath each track. Clicking on an event reveals that event's masks. You can easily add new masks here, rename masks, and control things about each mask such as scale, opacity, rotation, position, and a button to open the motion tracking dialogue for that mask.

Gosh, get some nice lower thirds templates going! I have to often go to Davinci Resolve or Premiere Pro to get nice titling...Newblue just doesn't cut it.
In the corporate editing world, lower thirds is essential!

Since the editor is positioned as a professional (which, among other things, is noticeable in the comments), you can think about adding the ability to write your own shaders (for effects, transitions, etc.). Judging by the questions and requests on the forum, it will be possible to simply add what you need. I do not know what language is used here for shaders (Cg or something similar) and what API vegas offers for it. If it is available somewhere and you can show it, I will be glad.

(Keep in mind GL transitions already kinda does this, but it doesn't enable writing shaders for custom effects, so I'll include this here.)

Memorize the size of the Explorer thumbnails (or all tabs)
The thumbnails always appear with the original small size.
When opening VEGAS the thumbnails should appear with the same size as when closing VEGAS

A choice of colors for markers (similar to that available in Resolve) with the R click (on a marker) color choice window offering custom naming of the colors so that the editor can use marker colors to identify specific needs or usages.

Lock Track
We can lock individual events (and by locking all the events on a track achieve the equivalent of a Lock Track button (or menu option), but it would be nice to have a dedicated Lock Track feature

AI Sample Detection - Specify an audio sample, and have VEGAS identify every time that sound is heard throughout an audio file, such as looking for the sound of a sniper rifle in a gameplay clip, snare drum hits, or a certain vocal sample.
