Vegas Pro Prerender folder - Browsing to DESKTOP only

LongJohn wrote on 2/1/2023, 4:40 AM

Hi all,

Very long-time user of VEGAS but currently, and mysteriously, all of my live copies of VEGAS [17, 18, 19] are not allowing me to browse to my Workstation drives. If I go to File > Preferences > Prerender file folder, I get just one option: Desktop. Clearly this is the one of my 50 TB of drives that I definitely do not want to flood out with pre-render files! Anyone else had this problem? Am I missing something here? System is Windows 11, 64 GB RAM, everything patched and up to date.

It happened with the latest Win11 update I would guess. OneDrive. I turned it off since I've never used it and have no problems with it dictating only one location (OneDrive C:) for storage location.

Makes me want to go back to Win10.....

Having installed the latest Windows 11 update just hours ago, I've just checked my VP19 - but I think you mean File/Properties/Prerender - and all expected destination folders/drives/external drives are there. But then I'm using a PC, not a workstation.

Exactly that yes. That is what I would expect to see. I just get DESKTOP option but no browser pop-up, as you are showing. Looks like it's something on my Editing workstation but re-start on Windows and updates on VEGAS don't seem to be fixing it so far. Curious - and no doubt significant to the backroom coding boys - that it is doing this on V17/18/19 on my system. Obviously, I don't want to dump render files all over my fairly small SSD OS drive!

Are those Vegas programs all installed at C:\Program Files\VEGAS\VEGAS Pro ....?

Yes - installation paths are all normal, as you suggest. VEGAS will render to D/E/F/G drives, just not seeing them in this dialogue box. Just 'DESKTOP' with no pop-up browser window.

I would suspect (and reload) VEGAS 19 installation, but 18 and 17 are doing the same thing.

@LongJohn

Don't let one monkey stop your show. Poke the address where you want your pre-rendered files to go into Vegas Pro Internal settings.

LongJohn wrote on 2/2/2023, 3:24 AM

Yes - that was my first instinct. However the path in there [C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\VEGAS Pro\17.0\] will not allow me to delete it or overwrite it. All very odd.

@LongJohn

At the Windows Welcome Screen, do you logon as "Administrator" or as "LongJohn" who is a member of the Administrators Group?

LongJohn wrote on 2/2/2023, 10:09 AM

Logged in as Admin as usual. So far as I know I haven't changed anything. Perhaps unsurprisingly, I also tried changing the Temp file path from Options/Preferences/General within VEGAS and that is also giving me Desktop only.

It may be worth stripping out all the VEGAS apps on this system and re-loading just v19 but it's always a bit of a time-pit when you're busy, isn't it? I was hoping someone had already fallen over this one and had a Eureka moment!

BTW: Just checked my other (more or less identical...) workstation, and VEGAS is running completely normally on that one - both patched to same version, both on Windows 11. Mysterious.

Cheers,

John M

Have tried running Vegas as administrator?

LongJohn wrote on 2/2/2023, 10:15 AM

Yes. If you hit run as Administrator it doesn't run.
