@Steve_Rhoden >>> Vegas Pro is good and strong, and going nowhere.<<<< "and going nowhere" sounds negative to me because I interpreted its meaning "to make no progress". But who am I, English is not my native tongue!
English is a confusing language even to us Englishmen. The same word can have different meanings and also different pronunciations. Steve was using "nowhere" in a "not leaving" sense not a "not progressing" sense. Hope my explanation helps make sense.
Sony wouldn't know what to do with it. When Sony bought it from Sonic Foundry, they literally bought the entire company. They were run as a fairly independent division at Sony (under a few different parent groups). Sony Creative Software was basically Sonic Foundry...same management, support, marketing and everything. If Sony bought it now, they would need an new management team overseeing the project along with a whole new technical support team, dev-ops, sales, marketing and qa.
And to be honest, I wouldn't work for Sony again...so they would need to find a new engineering team lead.
And remember, Sony retired Vegas Pro.
I know many people are concerned with the restructuring happening with the management of Vegas and very little has been said by the Vegas team or by the management of Vegas. We are still here and are working hard.
Having been around since V.3, we've had a few dramas along the way, huh boys. I've experienced the conjecture wars about whether Vegas would make it or not over the decades. At this late stage in life wisdom tells me it is what it is. But something big has changed and that is AI. Change is rapid and paradigms are changing faster than any of us can comprehend. As an old fart, my way of approaching and enjoying cutting and splicing is an art that is going the way the way of rug beaters. More important, the vast numbers of potential customers coming down the pike could care less about how Vegas and it's efficiencies function. As someone who still remembers the hell of using software such as Speed Razor let alone cueing V-decks it's hard to give up. Vegas has always been magic for me and a great enjoyment while turning a few bucks. Vegas as well as every other software is being left in the dust by change, like it or not. There is no investable future for a software like Vegas without massive infusions by very capable people. I'm guessing at best we're in a hiatus, while investors wait to see what is going to happen and then make a decision whether to run or fold. On the dark side, we're all left in limbo for support and future direction. At my age, I was going to let my smartscription lapse and just use the perpetual version. But someone at Vegas decided to just roll it over into a different product I never signed up for. As of now I have a fairly high subscription price for stock footage and music I seldom use.
I’ve personally been using Vegas since the Sony era, and in my view, regardless of company size, MAGIX has shown more passion toward Vegas than Sony did. I also acknowledge the improvements MAGIX has made in many areas. That’s why I’ve continued to trust and use the software. The market is evolving rapidly, with many competing programs improving quickly, but I won’t make direct comparisons here. As a developer, I believe you’re well aware of Vegas’s current standing and performance within the industry.
That said, I do have concerns as a user. Basic issues are not being properly patched, communication is lacking, and support feels absent. When I read responses to users’ questions and feedback, there are times it feels unclear whether this is a company or a religious group. For example, when users ask about patch timelines, they are often told to have “faith.” But in my view, faith comes from actions, not words. This is why users are asking for practical, concrete answers.
For instance, even if it’s not an official announcement, it would be understandable if someone involved said something like: “Due to these specific issues, development has been delayed, and we expect a release around the end of March—please bear with us.” That kind of explanation would make sense. However, what we consistently see instead are vague responses like “the team is working hard,” “please wait,” and “have faith.” In the end, users are left with no real information—only repeated requests for trust.
I believe the people here are already users who have a certain level of trust in Vegas. What’s happening now is quite unusual in this industry. Even so, many users continue to wait out of their attachment to Vegas. No one is saying the Vegas team isn’t working hard, and no one is denying the effort that has been made in the past.
What users want is the future. They are not worried because they lack trust, but because they care. That’s why, rather than asking concerned users for more faith, I hope MAGIX can demonstrate it through actions.
Since you seem to be the only one actively communicating with users, I’d like to make a request. If you don’t have the authority to make official announcements, please pass along users’ concerns to the company. Let them know that many users are worried and that we sincerely ask for better communication.
And finally, thank you as always for taking the time to engage with us here on the forum. It’s truly appreciated.
@monoparadox For SmartScription do contact VEGAS support and get the perpetual license you purchased.
How do you propose to contact Vegas support, RogerS? I'm trying since two monthes already and the only reply I get is a bot asking me if there is something I might want to add to the ticket.... never got a reply, never got the promised perpetual key for Vegas 23.
Support is simply totally unexistent :(
They have de-activated my subscription (locked serial) because of an outdated credit card (which I have updated in the account before the charging!) and so I have no chance to use Vegas 22, which I find more stable and reliable. Definitely unexpected situation.
