Vegas Stops Responding when searching the Help section

Andrew B wrote on 10/8/2016, 9:57 PM

I sent in a support ticket on this, but wondered if anyone else is having this issue.

After Vegas Pro 14 crashed, I decided to have it Auto-Save more frequently. I could not seem to find the option anywhere, so I opened up the help area and did a search for "Auto Save". I just get a spinning cursor and eventually Vegas Times out and crashes.

Anyone else having this issue?

Didn't happen to me (I tried press F1 to open Help - but VP14 still run). Is it repeatedly happening everytime you open Help ?

As for the Auto Save interval settings, I never try modify it (could be mistaken), but you can find the settings on Internal section of Preferences. Press SHIFT while clicking Options>Preferences. You will find new 'Internal' tab.

Search for save and you will notice msAutoSaveInterval.

More advice to saving project: Make sure to have multiple VEG project save rather than just one only project. Save and Save as. After some important steps, I also save the project and leave it. Useful to go back if something goes wrong. Recommend this as recently seeing other user have suddenly trouble opening a project and the backup file also fail.

I have had Help hang in VP13 many times. It is not 100%.

Thanks Set,

I also save different versions so I always have something to go back to. I have also renamed the automatically generated backup file in thepast to save the day.

I noticed that the help area will get stuck, but I can go back to the main vegas window and keep working. I just hate to leave the other window open and trying to do omething that takes resources away from my main vegas application.

It's funny, I don;t think I have even looked at the 'help' area since vegas 7 or 8, so it might have been broken for a while (lik NormanPCN mentioned).

A search for "Auto Save" in the VP14 help works almost instantly here. Help has always worked OK for me in all versions as far as I can remember. Sounds like your installation might have got corrupted somehow.

As for auto-saving, I always have my msAutoSaveInterval set to 60,000 (i.e. 1 minute). And I have Vegasaur backing up every minute (which is probably OTT because if I'm renaming something in the Vegas Explorer window it gets interrupted during the auto-backup). I also manually copy my current project file to another physical drive at the end of each day. Paranoid much?

I am with you Nick! I do all my work on a fast internal raid, but back the entire project up to an external drive at the end of each day (sometimes we don't sleep, so I do it about every 24 hours).

+1 back up often and project to external hd at end of day. don't have enough hair left to do otherwise ;-(
