VEGAS Titles & Text doesn't works with some font

Sirio wrote on 1/6/2017, 10:42 AM

Hi

I note that the titler VEGAS Titles & Text doesn't works with some font. Here a print screen:

As you can see, the font Bank Gothic Medium BT is selected, in the edit panel of VEGAS Titles & Text, the shape of the font has changed, but not in the Video preview.
This happen with many fonts eg: .atari-kids, AFLFontpespaye, Akbar Plain, Alien Sans Latin Basic, Berylium-regular, BudBird, Caladea, Calibri, Capture it, and many more...

It's too bad, because VEGAS Titles & Text, it's a simple and quick titler.

Yes, that's a known issue which unfortunately exists since Titles & Text was introduced. Though e. g. Calibri is fine here in VP14 build 211.

Legacy Text and ProType Titler working fine though.

Sirio wrote on 1/7/2017, 5:39 AM

In fact the problem is there since many years, is time to correct it, no?
Yes, Legacy Text and ProType Titler working fine, but every tools must work well. Is too boring begin to work with a tool and after a while, need to change it just because it doesn't work completely.
And another reason, is that some scripts recognizes only the Titles & Text titler. Script of subtitling.

I totally agree.

+1

I wonder if this is a specific limitation with regard to what type of font. e.g. System fonts vs TrueType fonts vs OpenType fonts. Or some other reason.

Sirio wrote on 1/7/2017, 7:22 AM

It happen specially with the TrueType, but this is not systematic. Some times some TrueType works well and others not.

I am still running NewBlue TitlerPro in VP13 and all fonts work as they should. At least 3 years ago, I made comparison videos using T&T, PTT and Legacy and sent them to SCS. They are well aware of this situation.

I have paid work to get out the door. I find something that works and move on. If I can test, and have, in testing further improvements, I will. I'm sure MAGIX has started to realise the extent to the amount of Global support there is for VP and that is a most valuable asset they've bought into.

@Sirio. Here's a post of mine from a thread a couple of years ago for this particular problem. Might be worth a try.

"Here's an easy workaround, at least for Arial Black on V13. Open Word (I used Word 2007). Select Arial Black font and type something, then copy. Open Vegas, Insert Text Event. Highlight and then Paste. The same title from Word will now display in the Text and Title box in arial black.. Then save as a Preset. Now add new titles and simply apply that preset. It indicates Verdana but displays Arial Black. You can then change font size. If you have Vegasaur, you can apply the preset it to multiple text events. Try it. Sure beats fooling around with Legacy Text."

Thank you for the tip. Yes I use Vegasaur (wonderful extension)
I explored your workaround avoiding to use Word and it works too just with Legacy Text of Vegas instead. In this case you don't need to leave Vegas.

You could do all your text in photoshop files, or as exports to PNG sequences, the way most pro editing is done. Then just add the component as a track overlay.

I always use Legacy Text tool... Titles and Text has good intentions but doesn't hold up.

I'm having a sub/superscript problem with a font named Oscar. I've tried importing as png with a superscript as it should be, when the text reaches the timeline it is nothing like the original input, increased in size and misplaced. Any ideas for a workaround since I am required to use this font.

Intrigued, with spare half hour. Vegas 14, Tried a .png loaded with a whole lot of strange fonts including Oscar, .png displayed normally (Oscar also displayed normally in "Titles and Text"). I think on some systems .png handling may be strange, workaround would be to use another image format (.e.g. jpg or .bmp)

If you create a PNG of that font at the size you want, and position it in the area that it should and then import to VP, it should appear exactly where you want it.

There's a couple of things you need to be aware of: a PNG is not a Text item, it is purely a Graphic. I would do a VP Snapshot, import that into your graphics editor and use that as your size and positional reference.

peter-hollidge wrote on 1/25/2017, 1:25 PM

Thank you both for your responses. I did size and position the text in the png file, it was simply 2.99 with 99 as superscript, what I failed to mention is I need to manipulate the text to zoom in which is may be where the problem arises. I've been on this problem for several days but I'm always ready to try something different. Having sub and superscript control in the text window would be a great addition. Thank you again, any further thoughts are very welcome.

Thanks again guys, after a few more tests lossless pdf does it.

The release notes for VEGAS Pro 16 Update 5 (build 424) state "All fonts are now properly recognized by the Text and Titles media generator".

Please test to verify, and let us know if any fonts still don't work.

None of my "* Light SF" called fonts (and some others) work in Titles&Text, no change in VP16 b.424 (and copy&paste from another text tool doesn't work either). I already reported this as (still existing) bug.

Same issue with Wicker Light SF. It works in NB Titler Pro but not in VP 16 build 424.

Simple info:
Problem partially solved on Vegas 17 😕 A lot of non working font now works, but still not works: Akbar Plain, Alfphabet, Alien Lines, and many others.

Grazie wrote on 8/7/2019, 4:32 AM

@Sirio . . gradually, year by year Vegas is playing "catch-up" with the FONT DB. Somewhere in Germany MAGIX has a FONT OFFICE, it has cobwebs on the door knob where it gets twisted each 5 years....

ADAM-KOODZIEJ wrote on 8/29/2019, 5:14 PM

It is not a problem of True Type or Open Type fonts , it is just BUG! On my old computer I worked with Vegas 12 Pro , and there was no a problem with fonts in Titles&Text, now on my new machine I've just bought and install Vegas 14 Pro Suite and here I have this problem. Every project made in 12 Pro doesnt work properly!!!!

The most interesting is the fact the fonts are displayed properly till You don't want to change them, edit them, or scale them . Than some fonts are just changed into Verdana font.

I'm very dissapointed.
This is unacceptable. I've bought the fonts, I've bought the Vegas Suite, and now I have to buy Adobe Photoshop, to change all the fonts to png image files? It is crazy.
So why the software producer doesn't inform us, that the title&text generator has some bugs, and many fonts just don't work!
And now, do I have to edit every movie made in 12 Pro, to change the fonts ???
Is it OK?
